This must be that new math I keep hearing about that is being taught in public schools now ! 1+1=5 very good Johnny. I don't care how low your living expenses are in any region of the country you do not buy a truck to just scrape by. You are supposed to chase as much profit as you can after truck & living expenses including a pay check for yourself. If you live in a region with low expenses then that's a bonus not an excuse to be raped by any company weather you own it or work as an employee. You did not include living expenses in this equation. $1106 is $57512 and by the time the thieves in Washington get done raping that you might be left with $38000 to feed your family and pay the household bills.

Correct. No profit margin. No interest in growing as a company. Done in five years.
Only going to run two days a week after that to supplement a job that's way more fun but will make you broke when supporting a family.

Still going to consider intermodal. I don't think that Triple Crown driver was lying. They run out of the Ford plant. Longest route is 10 miles. Basically a glorified hostler.

Huge house, 2 luxury cars plus bills equals $2000 per month. No drug habit to support. Don't really have any expensive hobbies. Just paid off my degree.

Okay as for the original question yes you need to do a lot of research and start looking again. Stay away from any mileage rate plans. I have not seen one yet that is worth looking at.

Agreed. Originally wanted to work for percentage and this came along. At the time I haven't even bought a truck and the terminal manager helped me get going. Now that I'm off and running, it won't be difficult for me to sign on somewhere else.

People come here all the time with bought a truck where are the good rates. To keep rates good you don't broadcast them when you find them. Won't be long till the guy who doesnt care about profit margin or past 5 years comes along and cuts the bottom out of it. Those who are successful look and find it, those who are uneducated or too lazy which ever applies can too

Again, good luck with that. Profit is what is left over after ALL of your expenses are paid. No profit margin means you're running for break-even. That being the case, in 5 years you'll be exactly where you are now financially...just 5 years older. Problem is, you haven't accounted for all of your expenses...and STILL have no profit margin. What that means is that as unexpected things happen (such as a $4000 repair right out of the gate), you'll be operating in the red provided you can secure financing...which increases your operating expenses because now you are paying interest on top of the actual repair costs. Problem with that, is, eventually those providing the financing grow weary of the level of credit they are having to extend to you in order to keep your wheels rolling and your ability to repay them, and sooner or later they simply cut their losses and cut you off. Chances are, in 5 years you'll have accrued a bit of debt repairing the truck over the years, have a worn out truck that may or may not sell for as much as you owe on these accounts, and STILL won't be able to do that fun hobby that will make you broke when supporting a family. The truck gets even more expensive per mile to operate the less it is used, as the fixed expenses (registration, permits, HVUT, insurance, etc...) are the same whether you run the truck 1 day per year or 365 days. When you are under water running the truck full time, what makes you think running it part time will "supplement" another job that won't pay the bills either?

I mentioned that back in post #11, along with quite a few other things he's missed. If he doesn't want to listen, that's on him...suppose I could list a few of my assets and fact that my monthly bills are around half of what he claims his are....and I STILL wouldn't run my truck for $1.28/mile....but it would probably go right over his head. He thinks he's got this all figured out, and I've tried to help. All that's left to do now is wait for the "I lost everything" post to show up. Should we start a pool for how long that'll take?

It's sort of like starting school and being the sharpest kid in kindergarten FOR 5 YEARS!!!! 5 years older, but never advance beyond the entry stages. All of your friends from year one are looking at4th and 5th grade, and you're still in play school.

What would you call a kid that didnt advance past kindergarten for half a decade? Where would America be without the participation trophies?
