A friend of mine teams for Old Dominion.. They split 75 cents a mile. Owner operator teaming for $1.20 a mile? WOW!

USPS and UPS are light freight, from what I understand. I know USPS contractors usually pull half empty trailers but even full trailers of mail is light.

That's why you see them speeding up the east coast mountains.

Less wear and tear on a truck = less maintenance $= more profit.

The uSPS contractor I ran for had a fleet of million mile trucks that were probably bought for $10,000 each.

$1.20/ mile looks a whole lot better than the $1.00/ mile the local container company here pays. Plus, no heavy ### containers and abused trailers.

I look at it like pizza delivery. No one in their right mind would ever buy a brand new car to deliver pizza, right? But, find a decent $500 car and a busy pizza joint and you can do ok.

Cheap freight needs cheap trucks to keep that machine going.

Do you think UPS freight hauled in their trucks by their employee drivers cost them $1.20 a mile? Or, $750 a day to the truck like I was offered? Me thinks not.

First off, I'm a company driver for UPS Freight, the loads can be light but not typically, with UPS package they tend to be lighter. The O/O will still pull 40k loads all day along with some lighter ones.

UPS Freight's ultimate goal is to go all O/O since it's cheaper for them. They purchased Coyote Logistics to help do this. Our union sucks and is slowly letting this happen one run at a time. I can understand Owner Operators are just doing their job but this will just hurt the company drivers income of one of the few driver jobs that actually pays what it should.
