I know 30 years ago that's the way we did it but after being off the road for so long and coming back, I thought that was the whole premise behind IFTA,,,,,, no?

Well for as bad as yday sucked, today has made up for it. Delivered in Romeoville IL at 8 30 and completely expected some kind of Plano run without many miles....well weekend dispatch hooked me up lol. Got sent 142 empty miles to Hartford WI where Im currently waiting to be loaded. Then down to Richfield for the night, and off to Martinsburg WV tomorrow for Mon morn delivery. 780 loaded miles, so 922 mile load from weekend dispatch so even with Fridays cluster f Ill have my best week for miles since coming back...gladly take it since going home next weekend until day after labor day, and thats unpaid....but buying a house so need some time off to get things fixed, cleaned, and moved.

Sup y'all. Greetings from Smithton PA. I'm on my way to Greensburg PA, a suburb of The Steel City. I'm about 20 miles away which is unfortunately as close as I could get. This load doesn't deliver until morning and I can't park overnight at the final. I'm kicking myself right now for being here after the trip I just had. 70 is so torn up right now it's ridiculous. Endless construction and very low speed limits. As soon as one construction zone ends and you get back up to speed, another zone starts a mile down the road. Over and over and over again. Instead of taking 71 from Trenton to Columbus and then grabbing 70, I should have taken 71 all the way to 76 and gone home for the night. It's more miles, but a much better path and I could've seen my family today. I'll tell ya this, I'm not taking this road again anytime soon. What a joke. But at least I'm close to my final. That'll give me a fantastic jump on next week's miles. I'll need it, because this week was awful. Every time Opie goes away my pay suffers. I rarely have a positive experience when dealing with night and weekend dispatch and frankly it's getting old. 2200 miles this week, that's it. I think I'm seriously gonna start asking Opie for notice when he's taking off, and plan my home time around his. I've been to my final a couple times, it's a decent place and fairly fast service. Hopefully that trend continues tomorrow. Last time I went I was was given the impression that showing up early is acceptable, so I will be there as soon as they open. I will unfortunately be relatively close to Clarion, so I'm betting that's where I'll get sent next. I won't make the mistake of taking 66 this time:biggrin_25512: I've placed that road on my "hell friggin no" list, along with 460 and 220. Never again, not even in an emergency. I'll get to log a lot of pillow time tonight, which is awesome. Didn't sleep well last night for some reason and it's a guarantee that I'll be out as soon as my eyes close. Hope you all had a good weekend, and a productive week. I have one more full week left on this run, then heading to the homestead the following week. It isn't coming fast enough. Until tomorrow, take it easy guys. Be safe out there and keep the rubber side down. Peace.

If you want the true cost of fuel you need to subtract out the state fuel tax. IFTA does something to do with. Illinois has a high fuel tax and the higher pump price is misleading once you subtract out the fuel
Tax thefuel is lower. If you
Pay to much fuel tax in Illinois you will be credited with the overage and it applied to the other states tax.

But not all states give you 100% credit for your overpayment. When I was a BCO at Landstar, they provided us with a list of what states credited what percentage. That way you didn't over fuel in states that shorted you on your IFTA.

At least when I was keeping track of ifta, I'd fuel a lot in SC, TN, MO, and like states (low ifta, very low price), then counter with the occasional fill up in OH, MI, IL, PA, and such (high ifta, med-high price). I was always after the highest IFTA to price ratio. The most I ever paid was $70 for my straight truck. I was usually around $30 for the quarter, and occasionally got a small ($20 or so) credit for the next quarter. Surprisingly, the best state at the time was PA, followed by NJ and OH. That was 10 years ago, tho. I have no idea what it is today.

All I know is states like IN, KY, VA, and OR want their cake and eat it too; so I would try to avoid fuelling there. They'd charge some ifta at the pump, or not charge at all, then hit you with a nice surprise come filing time. KY and VA weren't too bad - .03-.07, or something like that. But I would rather do my business at the pump, thank you.
