The first BOL I get is the E-fax to my phone. Basically boss forwards the docs him and broker discuss to me. Tells me addresses, pickup and drop times, special instructions, and I can calculate my pay off it. I don't get any BOL until I get to the shipper, a lot of the time bill is on hand off the bat. Othertimes they aren't written out until they know how much fits into the truck.
I picked up some air handling equipment in Sanford, NC. They didn't give me the BOL because they weren't sure this one skid would fit on the truck. After it was all loaded and I had it secured, locked and sealed I had my BOL. Did have to write the seal number on it and sign my part of it, but thats it.
Rarely I have to have someone sign the bill I write. But this pickup in Miami was done by Cubans who seemed confused by "Bills." "Documents." "Papers." "The loads paperwork." I let my boss hash that out, meanwhile he told me to run with it and he'll get it sorted.
On delivery, customer gets a copy of the BOL, they sign mine, E-fax it and done. -
Most of our day to day pickups weren't handled by a sales team. There were some ladies answering the phone who took the information for the pickup. It was difficult enough for them to get a company name and an address, without adding to their paperwork...MACK E-6 Thanks this.

When I ran otr I hated hauling recycled aluminum cans and I once ran a load of plastic tubes for tampons. Those sucked real bad too.
-
Just curious here, how were they packaged?

Cardboard boxes. It was a drop and hook. I couldn't look in it as it was already sealed, wasn't strapped down and the crap fell over. Lol.Big Don Thanks this.

Crap fell over in a pre loaded pre sealed trailer- not your ####ing problem!MACK E-6 and CrappieJunkie Thank this.
-
Nope it's not, but the Tampax people had fun picking the crap off the ground when I open the door. Lol.
-
....Especially when the BOL says "shipper load and count".
Big Don and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
Pallet of clay going to a school or anything going to a hotel. Neither destination has a forklift so it will be a lift gate delivery, inside delivery, or both. And usually your carrier is a suck up and waives the extra charges out of pure greatfullness to land the account.
No leverage for the driver to get extra help to get their crap in the door.Big Don Thanks this.
