Hmmmm...
I give you these "rare" occurrences to ponder...
Just because its not there @ post-trip does not mean it wont mess you up @ pre-trip
- leaky leveling valve
- leaky airbag
- blown fuse @ start up
- flat tire

If you do your post trip in the dark, and your pre trip in daylight, chances are pretty good you might find problem tires occasionally that you missed at night. Damage on black rubber in the dark, even with a decent flashlight can be difficult to spot.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Yeah genius. That's why I said rare. I didn't say you'll never find a problem. WTF is wrong you you guys who can't comprehend what I'm saying??

Yeah, I've never logged or flagged a post trip.
I just went on duty for 15 minutes in the morning for the pretrip while I went inside and got my breakfast and coffee -
You missed one.
If a companies Safety scores are low enough, OD loads are exempt from the 30 minute break all together. -
First I've heard of this one. Is this a permitted load thing and the permit allows this (to not have to deal with curfews and the like) or what? Do you have a regulation for that anywhere?

Hours of Service of Drivers: Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) Exemption; FAST Act Extension of Expiration Date
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fmcsa.dot.gov%2Fsites%2Fall%2Fthemes%2Fmodebase%2Fimages%2Fdot-print-icon.jpg&hash=05ede17dfb53561e99bd861708a0d5a9)
Action: Notice; extension of exemption.
Summary: FMCSA announces the extension of the 2015 exemption granted to the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) for the transportation of loads that exceed normal weight and dimensional limits. The exemption applies to all oversize-overweight permitted loads whose drivers are not required to comply with the 30-minute rest break rule. The Agency extends the expiration date to June 17, 2020, in response to section 5206(b)(2)(A) of the ``Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act'' (FAST Act). That section extends the expiration date of hours-of-service (HOS) exemptions in effect on the date of enactment of the FAST Act to 5 years from the date of issuance of the exemptions. The SC&RA exemption from the Agency's 30-minute rest break requirement is limited to drivers of specialized loads moving in interstate commerce that exceed normal weight and dimension limits--oversize/overweight (OS/OW) loads--and require a permit issued by a government authority. The Agency previously determined that the drivers of specialized commercial motor vehicles (CMV) under this exemption would likely achieve a level of safety equivalent to or greater than the level of safety that would be obtained in the absence of the exemption.ZVar Thanks this. -
It must be up to the company policy, cause i'm hearing different things from everyone. Swift safety guy preached a 45 min pretrip, cause in case of a fatal accident, the prosecutor could take you to jail for logging only 15. Now, maybe he's exaggerating to scare us, idk, but I've never gotten a bad audit from Swift when i logged only 15.
The company I'm with now says daycabs must log at least 15 min for pretrip and posttrip. Sleepers can log 5 min walkaround if they've been with their truck/trailer overnight. Otherwise its 15 min if you leave or return.
As far as the 8 hour, it starts counting down the moment you start your day, as many have already said. Now, you can take a 30 once you get 5 1/2 hours in or have 2 1/2 hours left, then you won't have to take a 2nd 30min before your day is over.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
