What @JReding said. Basically when you hold your phone sideways it fills the screen rather than when the phone is held upright. With most videos it makes things easier to see and shows less useless stuff.

"Don't be afraid to spin that truck around..."

"...unless you are pulling a triaxle, 10 foot split and/or are loaded heavy to the rear."

These trucks aren't happy doing tight U-turns most of the time. I appreciate the sentiment of "do the easiest thing that saves the most time and energy on your part" but to me, even as a company driver, I still take tire wear into account when driving. I would have pulled in to the right just like your example and backed to the dock around the parked vehicles.

Depending on the available room, I doubt I would have played the "get as close as possible to everything" game, but I never just spin the truck around, unless it's completely empty.

Or a guy could've just did a serpentine back around the crap in the way with the way he originally pulled up ;)
Some of the backs we have to do with our equipment either proves you can back or not, can't fake it here ;)

In the cell phone video portrait mode, 60% of the screen is blacked out. I always prefer the 16x9 aspect wide screen with all the space filled up with imagery.

Not taking away anything from the video though, I liked it and it sparked a ton of discussion and we can all learn from each other by discussing what we would have done in this situation. I love video for explaining things over tons of text and writing and building the image in our minds, the video does the hard work for the mind already.

Making a Jackknife turn on a set of doubles is also a No No too. You can hit the trailers doing that.

Yes you can. We've had some guys pull doubles and come real close to doing that. Everything in this video was set up on purpose I used the 28' trailer because that's what vehicle we were in when we were at the school. However like a spread axle or bigger trailer another option would have had to be done. I was gearing this more for delivery guys who do stops that aren't really truck load and big truck delivery type deals.

Yep. I'm a former Food and P&D guy myself, and a lot of the places that LTL and Foodservice has to deliver to is just too tight for the big Trailers to get into. I stopped by a 7-11 a couple days ago and they had a McLane driver with a sleeper and a 53' trailer take up the whole parking lot. I'm glad I got out of there before he started backing up, otherwise I would of been blocked in lol.

I picked that trick up watching the yard dogs do it.
