Company I work for has sliding spread axles. Newer trailers have front axle that slides towards rear. Older trailers have rear axle that slides toward the front. They're both 48'FT trailers. Which one would you prefer and why?

Do you run Canada? I don't see much point of having the sliding axle if you don't. I suppose there may be the occasional circumstance where you may be able to slide the axle to get into some tight area more easily, but I've never done it on any of the sliding axles my company runs. We have them for running into Canada, and since I don't go there, I don't slide them.

I do go to Canada once in a while.
I was just wondering how come some trailers have front axle sliding towards rear and others have rear one slide towards front. Whats the preferred one? -
One is probably CA legal where the other isn't.
-
If you mean California legal, both should be legal here, provided they are really 48 footers.kylefitzy Thanks this.

I can't say that I've ever seen a sliding axle on a 48' trailer. Not saying they don't exist, but I've only seen them on 51' & 53' trailers.TripleSix Thanks this.

We run them on 45 and 48 foot trailers, not the whole fleet but we have enough to run freight out of Canada since Canada, or at least the Western Provinces, would be my understanding, don't recognize spread axles. Ours all slide to the back.Orangees, cke, kylefitzy and 1 other person Thank this.

Thats why I like running '48 stepdeck in California and I can have axles spread
-
Personally I would prefer the front axle moving toward the rear.
TripleSix Thanks this. -
Being from Canada, I'd prefer a tridem.
cke Thanks this.
