No one here ever answered my question. I've recently seen WM trailers on Rail Trains out west... Is this new or have they been doing this for long while?

You know we charge for our services right? I mean how does any trucking company stay in business with all those things you list? Oh that's right they charge their customers.

I guess you have never heard of a concept called maximizing returns, eh?

Do you know how you accomplish that today? By lowering COST. And, again, outsourcing the truck side would definitely be cheaper.

But hey, I couldn't care less either way (like I said). But, I know *I* would be at least a bit concerned if I saw Swift setting up camp (including maintenance shops) at the DCs.

Yes,this is Sad,but..isn't this the trend in Trucking and everywhere else.Save a buck, get it done Cheaper.Distance ourselves from the drivers to avoid lawsuits.Hire temp at Boeing till the Rush is over, then send me home.Hire people at Walmart up to 32 hrs,so you don't have to give me benefits.Save money so the bigwigs can get a nice $10k bonus every Christmas.

The writing is on the wall, Wal mart is trying to compete with the likes of Amazon. They need to cut costs, hmm we're paying truck drivers 100K+ a year, when we can out source everything to 3rd party contract carriers for half that. It's only a matter of time.

They could be new trailers being delivered or they need to move trailer pools into areas that are short. Most rail freight goes on 3rd party trailers.

Good theory, but just because 3rd party drivers make ln your theory "half as much" it doesn't mean that those companies are charging that much less than what WM operating costs are. Also I haven't seen a Amazon super center store yet.... Whole foods don't count
