48' front axle slide is a Canadian spec trailer. Gives you either a closed tandem or short 60" Canadian spread when closed and max of 41' king pin to center of Trailer axles for Western Canada.

Normal California spec 53' rear axle slide the axle slides forward to give you a 40' king pin to center of REAR axle spacing for Commiefornia.

Quite a few of the 53' Canadian spec trailers, the front axle slides back to make a closed tandam or Canadian 60" spread. Again 41' from the king pin to center of the trailer axles. Good for Canada but no good for Commiefornia.......

I used to run a triple axle car hauler exclusively in commufornia, at 41' kpra, and never had a problem. Do they actually even check? I also ran a 96 cab over and then an 02 Columbia there as early as this spring, never "busted".

I don't believe that I've ever seen one either.

I'd rather have the axles toward the rear on a 48' for easy weight distribution especially with a tandem.

We have a 48 step with a lift axle. Man I love that thing. the truck I run has the connections and switch to control it from in the cab. Hit a switch a whammo up comes the axle.
