I assume your talking about the new gen 2018. I got a brand new 2018 in May, but mine is the same body style as the 17.

Mine doesn't have external antennas. It's some kind of internal deal. I notice I don't get much range with it, however. Maybe a mile at most, probably less.

I may have to break down and buy an antenna.

 

Have you checked your SWR? It may be O.K., but you're correct, you won't talk much further than a cheap toy walkie talkie.

 

Yes. I checked it. Says all is good. I'll end up just buying a decent antenna.

 

If it's any consolation, this will give you a perfect swr on any channel.

 

That would be a resistor aka a dummy load.

 

Anybody got a picture of the new Cascadia mirror? I made my mount out of stainless steel. I'm wondering if you could modify it, or will it need to be completely redone? Glad we went to the KWs, they are better out of the box than the Frieghtliner could ever be. I drove one that had phenomenal ears. The radio wasn't much so I'm giving all the credit to the antenna system.... completely stock! It heard at least as good as my 7ft Skip Shooter on the Freightliner.

 

By weasels post he said the bolt holes are off a tad, so that makes me think that you could oblong the holes enough for the bolts to line up. Probably need to install a washer on the bolts if possible. It would be nice if u could modify it verses spending more $$$’s on another mount.

 

Just an FYI, I know there may be a quick need to run out and get ceramic power resistors but make sure they are not wire-wound or inductive resistors. YOU want carbon ceramic power resistors.
