Had only 6 hours coming today and shut down early in Dunnigan, CA. When I parked, things were normal, but in about 3 hours, the winds have shifted, and now it's a dark orange sky with heavily filtered sun. Looks overcast but it's actually all smoke. Had to roll up the windows to keep ashes out of the truck.

Back on the yard in Omaha, delivered in Denver yesterday, picked up in Denver this morning. 3400 miles since Sunday morning.
Heading to L.A. tomorrow for a Tuesday delivery, 4 drops.G13Tomcat and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
About 20 miles west of Laramie WY.
Had only 9 hrs for today so I had to stop early. I-80 is closed between Cheyenne and Elk Mountain for light high profile vehicles. Worst part was between Cheyenne and the Lincoln Monument, 60+ miles wind gusts, lots of trucks parked at exits and on shoulder. Have 79000+ but no fun to drive, slowed down to stay on the road. Rocking in the wind now and try to sleep
Logan76, G13Tomcat, carramrod32 and 1 other person Thank this. -
It's about that time of year, isn't it? This summer and early fall has been far from normal for me compared to past but I don't mind missing Wyoming. Few weeks ago, they had me routed via Wyoming/Denver (Portland to Dallas) but I decided against that option and went via Moab. I knew there was no precip to be concerned with, but just wanted to avoid the possible winds because it was a light load.
Unload San Antonio tomorrow morning (from Stanton, VA). I guess their Austin loads hadn't come in Friday because they preplanned me to bounce all the way to Dallas to load to NW Ohio but would not be surprised if I got a load change tomorrow enroute, hopefully before I get too far past Austin. Would not be the first time I was turned around back to Austin following a San Antonio unload to a DFW reload.Last edited: Oct 22, 2017

With a light load I would have taken I-70, but I hate the 70. Still rocking in the wind, had no good sleep

80 is still closed for light vehicles and I wouldn't go, it's really bad. What I don't understand, the signs were on in Cheyenne, advise was stop at truck parking, there were only a few trucks parked. A few miles more where the gusts were really bad everybody stopped at the exits and on the shoulder, not a good idea.
There's a reason why the signs are on!Vic Firth and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
Near L.A.
Made three drops today, two receivers took forever so I ran out of hours before my last drop.
Fortunately there's parking at the last receiver and I have a quiet place for the night. It was 106 F today, it's October and not summer!
Will pick up after my delivery for Denver, delivery is scheduled for Saturday, have not enough hrs to make it to Denver on Thursday and the receiver is closed on Friday. Will see if I take a reset on route.carramrod32 and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
Had to swap my TX>OH candy canes load in Nashville to a driver for his home time. Got his Idaho potatoes and onions. Currently sitting inside the Atlanta Produce Terminal on my break. Then to Augusta for a Carson, CA load
Shock Therapy Thanks this. -
In Denver CO.
Can make my delivery tonight. Arrived this afternoon to get a ten hr break, then deliver after midnight, take an eight hr sleeper, then pick up later in the morning. Arrived with 6 minutes left on my 70, post trip and the clock is ZERO.
Get back 10:31 midnight. I like it when my plan works.
Fortunately i had no delays from Cali to Denver, it started snowing downhill Eisenhower and the signs were on: Winter storm forecast this afternoon, Expect chain and traction law.Vic Firth, Shock Therapy and carramrod32 Thank this.
