my thing is this, if i take a job with this company and one of the other companies i applied for call me, do i take a job and leave it for something better after 1 or 2 weeks? take this job right now till something else comes through? driving a little toy F700 glorified automatic pickup truck is not why i got my CDL in the first place. the truck is barely a class B.

i also am trying to get back to class A driving, i applied at marquart but they say they aren't hiring the local guy for a couple of weeks. this would be a class A job. if i took the job at buffalo biodiesel and left after two weeks, its not something i would even put on my resume.

im guessing its better to work right NOW and go somewhere else in short order then it is to sit around and wait for that better opportunity?

You do what is best for you, not what is best for a company. If you start at one employer and someone else comes by with a better deal just tell the truth. You are taking care of yourself, not taking care of them. Obviously there are a millions different scenarios where one could justify not taking a new job with someone else but this is not one of them.

If your possible new, better, employer will not allow you to give two weeks notice to your prior job, then they might not be as good an employer as they seem.

Burning bridges is not a good idea. The petrol delivery company might not be what you want, but they likely are linked into the rest of the business community of commercial drivers.

Go to work now, if the pay is better than unemployment. If the pay is similar to unemployment, then it might be a better idea to invest more time and effort to the search.

absurd interview so many things felt downright wrong. they have tracking devices on all of the trucks, get caught doing 10 mph over the speed limit for 4 miles automatic termination. i dont speed but i dont need to be threatened before even accepting a job offer. he said that if you get caught taking any short cuts on a pre trip automatic termination. he went on for about 5 minutes telling me how he is going to fire me. look, i know safety is important but if your going to sit there and lecture me on how you are going to fire me, im not going to work for you. pretty simple

adding insult to injury they make you take a stupid and irrelevant "aptitude test". i said what does this test have to do with my ability to drive a truck? they said if i dont like it, leave...... i finished the test just for the sake of finishing it, but it was completely irrelevant and had nothing to do with anything. one word, dumb.

one more thing, they had me pee in a cup before even offering me a job. it was one of those cheap $20 test kits you buy at walmart. this is not normal procedure, while i dont have anything to hide, this just felt wrong. normal procedure is to be offered a job and then sent to a licensed drug test place before you hit the road. this felt completely wrong, and i dont even know if its legal for them to hand you a $20 kit and tell you to go to the bathroom BEFORE a job offer was even presented. the drug test was the type you would give your teenager if you suspected of them doing something.

the trucks are toys, barely even a class B vehicle, reminds me of a flatbed tow truck. when fully loaded they weight 33,000 lbs and they are automatic. driving one of these things is not why i got a CDL. this is not trucking.

the whole thing just smells like fish and i will not be taking a job with them.
