Stand your ground, driver. I have upset more than one dayloader in my life. I'm not crossing the gate until all is squared and legal. It's my CDL in jeopardy not their class C.
csmith1281 Thanks this. -
I don't see where you say you're over on gross weight. If you're not over the gross l doubt that the customer's going to change anything. They'll say its your problem. I would weigh every time and keep track of any discrepancies. Show your boss if there's a consistent pattern.
JimmyWells and csmith1281 Thank this. -
Ill agree, how are they supposed to load and know what each tractor is spec'd for? The shipper couldnt possibly be that good at their job to load this trailer with this much, that trailer with that much and still know that the prime driver coming at 5pm has a fifth wheel that sits 2 inches lower than yesterdays guy.csmith1281 Thanks this.

Those Peterbilts sit a bit higher than the Freightliners also. The 5th wheel is 2-3" higher.
You'll probably notice when you back under trailers that it takes a bit more to get under and lift them up. Although, It will be nicer not having to crank up a landing gear that's bound up as much.csmith1281 Thanks this. -
I went over a scale today in Ohio, and I know I must've been three or 400 pounds over on my drives, but my gross right now is only 79 and some change, so they did not mess with me.

Maybe I am lucky but my shipper absolutely knows how much each of their empty trailers weights and knows not to go over 45,000 pounds of product so to fit every different tractor that might come in for pick up. It is their job to not overload a trailer and mine to only pull a legal load.Tb0n3 Thanks this.

Id say you are lucky. Ive come across shipers who do just that as well.
Ive also come across shippers who load joe schmoes truck legal, thrn here i come with my heavier tractor full of fuel and bam! Overweight on drives.
The best shippers can do is cut short on the product and order another truck. -
But you may lose your freedom.
