The 65 cpm is probably after bonuses if you run some ridiculous amount of miles. They probably pay around 58 or 59 cpm max. I make 45cpm for dry van work + 3 cpm for fuel and 2 more cpm if I ran over a certain amount of miles each month. The fuel bonus is very easy to obtain, you have to try not to. Plus if you factor in benefits like the 401k match, cheap health insurance, unemployment insurance, etc it's a way better deal than even 65 cpm on 1099. Especially factoring it's reefer work.

Who knows why/how they get away with it, but they do. The amount of tax revenue lost at state and federal levels because of hundreds of thousands of people taking pay under the table and not reporting this pay and not paying taxes on this pay, must be enormous.

But this is what happens more and more as you raise tax rates more and more and impose more and more tax regulations on "small business". They just avoid the IRS altogether and keep their fingers crossed.

It's getting crazy here ladies and gentlemen! I see ads offering 65,67,70 even 75(!) CPM for reefer and even 80 CPM for flatbed! Almost regret I agreed to 65 CPM but oh,well I am an honest man and my word means something. In the meantime I took 3 weeks gig, short 300-400 miles runs @68 cpm.Miles paid from odo.The problem is I have to do pick ups and deliveries in Chicagoland and I hate it with passion but hopefully will make it till the end of the month.

Well,it's still not bad for running legally, isn't it? I actually asked what they expect from me and was told 3000 miles/week which I don't see any problem doing as long as they have half decent load planners.

If we're talking about a "carrier" operated by a group from Russia or other country in that general area, then yes, 3,000 mpw will be the MINIMUM you will be expected to run, no matter the weather or the breakdown cause. If you shut down in Wyoming for 24 hours due to road closure, you'll be expected to make it up in the next 2 days to get back on schedule. (Don't expect them to move to eLogs, if they do, then there's a chance they may work out at least for a while)

I'd rather take a beating every day then work for a fly-by-night 1099 company that has to throw out click-bait numbers to get drivers to make the leap from the known to the unknown. Good luck but don't come back here in 4 months wondering where you can work without having a reference for your past 4 months (those people are no longer available for employment verification)

Ok,here is an update on my new 65 cpm reefer job.Started a week ago and did 2 runs so far.Looks like I can pretty much forget about going west or south. So far it's been all PA then pick up in NJ(always over 6 h wait there but was told I am getting paid after 2 h) and back. It's not that bad though as I rarely have to do pick ups and deliveries in Chicagoland. Both runs have been drop and hook at home terminal.
Equipment: 2015 shiny Peterbuilt with 400k on odo.Not a bad truck but Eaton auto transmission makes it hard to back up On a brighter side ,the truck seems to be OPEN-) Not sure about it as odo ends @80mph but the needle goes past 80.Getting paid on Friday so I will see if I will stick around.
