Wonder if the biggest problems with these heaters comes from user error by not letting the unit shut down completely before you start the engine After it's switched of it runs an after cooling process for a couple of minutes. If you start the truck in this time it will shut of because of low voltage and the cooling process is aborted. This will destroy the burn chamber in no time.

Another thing that helps every so often when you get the chance to run it when you can get out of truck. crank heat to max and open windows half way and let it run full blast for a bit ,that will help prevent carbon build up .

That espar died last winter.
I am not buying another or adding to my chore list with annual maintenance of that pos.
Nope.
I will stick with my Mr Heater and a bottle of propane. That works reliably and doesn't cost a mint. Also the propane is readily available and cheap. A 20lb (or is it 15lb) bottle will easily last a month. Not as cheap as an espar or as effective but it does work. When it gets cold enough I run the main engine anyway. For protection. -
Just got into a new company truck that wasn't run for awhile, espar would run for awhile, then green light would go to red, with error message
'52 52 0 0 0 0 no flame detect'
Took it to shop, they cleaned stuff inside, replaced glow plug, and it seems to work now.free spirited1 Thanks this. -
I've had better luck with webasto over the espar.
izifaddag Thanks this. -
i installed the espar heater on my truck myself, it really was not too bad been in the truck almost a year no issues so far.

Also if this helps anyone, my truck has the LCD digital controller, you know the one that's like app 3" x 3" in sleeper area on wall, you can adjust the min run voltage down, at our terminal one of the mechanics took the cover off and used a opened up paperclip, and set it down to 11.8 volts for me on a previous truck I had, may have him do the same to this truck Espar controller, it didn't affect operation of it and runs longer, it's your preference of course.Last edited: Dec 28, 2017
