Have any of you guys ran both motors? How do they compare? I run a 445hp MP8 in a 2015 Pinnacle with a 13spd. Compared to a C12, C13, 12.7, MX-13, etc it's a very hard pulling motor. I've never had a chance to run a Mack 427, 454, or 460 vs one. I did talk to a guy in my company that used to run a Vision with a 460/13spd, and he loved that truck! He was pretty ticked off when they finally retired it with well over one million on the ticker. I guess she was running great, pulling hard, and using nary a drop of oil to the very day they got rid of her. That was several months ago and the old guy is still pretty steamed about that...
I have had the chance to run a 2007 Vision with an AC380/410 and a 10spd auto w/ clutch several times lately. The truck rides great but is totally gutless compared to an MP8. I know the older Mack engines liked their higher revs, but you can't keep it up high with a 10spd. When I'm pulling 75k with that truck it's laughable trying to get up to 65mph. Climbing out of the big hole in 9th and 10th is about like watching the grass grow lol.
What's everybody's fav Mack engine pre-Volvo and why?
Mack 460 vs MP8

i have a pre emmisions e-7 460 13 speed with 3.73's and its a very strong puller for what it is. i run heavy often around 100k lbs and it keeps up with if not passes 475-500 c-15's 550's will pull away from me on hard pulls but not by a mile.

there is certainly times with my loaded weight i wish i had more displacement esp on engine breaking on down grades. but for a small displacement engine it really holds its own.

Compared to most previous Macks I have driven, this MP8 is head and shoulders above the rest(even with a 12 speed Mdrive auto). I haven't looked to see what HP the company has it spec'd at, but my previous Macks were E7s in the old CH613 trucks. But since they were company trucks, they were the typical castraded company trucks. I currently haul between 43 & 46k of flat glass on a regular basis, and so far, this MP8 has out pulled just about every other truck I have driven. The only one that came close was way back when, it was the old Volvo 770 I drove with , I think, the D13 Volvo motor that was a 460 hp/1600 torque with a 10 speed.

yeah the dark green vision is me....lol one of these days ill look into fixing my signature picture....lol
i don't know what if anything has been done to the ecm. it may be turned up it may not be, the truck isn't a 460xt truck. but i really don't know what it has for programming in it. seems to pull better than it should so iv just avoided letting anyone poke around in the ecm....lol
i may find out soon though. iv been having some problems with random codes lately found water intrusion in the harness that made it to the ecm plug. replaced the harness and found a bunch of wires with broken insulation. its better with the new harness but still getting a few of the random codes. probably going to need to replace the ecm as well.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
In stock form the mp8 505 will walk a E-7 vmac 1-2 and etech/aset unless your geared super low.
The 93 my dad has stays right with the company trucks with the 505's. That's with small rubber and 3.91. Has a blixxton module hooked into the injection pump that I guess fools the rack to open more. my dad says it pulls harder than his 03 460 did.
I have 3-4 thousand miles in 445 mp8 pulling frac pumps around (between 95 99k) with 10 speeds and they did pretty good running i80 across pa. Passed plenty of fleet specd dd15Last edited: Dec 7, 2017
