Well I think if the company is going to have cameras in the trucks then they should be mounted on everything the company owns and not just vehicles with the exception of the bathrooms. If one segment of the company is going to be watched then the entire company should be as long as they are on or using company property including cell phones.

As much as I want to say drivers are doing things to deserve it, I think I'd rather encourage people to consider this matter a bit more deeply.
Running driver cams for the alleged purpose of "safety" and "accountability" is, in my estimation, just a blatant pretension and hypocrisy. If safety and accountability were really concerns, they'd do much better to point those cameras at the road and start firing drivers which habitually tailgate, cut each other off, pass at the slightest provocation, and generally cause a lot of trouble. And probably in-so-doing, they'd also catch the drivers who are simply too busy talking to their phones to drive. (DOT could also do this if they should decide that an occasional random slap on the wrist isn't getting the job done)
But, getting rid of the drivers which need to be babysat would be quite destructive to a lot of carriers: Cheap freight, and the companies which are heavily invested in it would suddenly find themselves with all trucks and practically no drivers.
If you should happen to be involved in the public debate over traffic safety, it might be worthwhile to consider whether the public endangerment caused by the licensing and employment of irresponsible drivers ought to be considered permissible. -
I've never bought into "for drivers safety" b.s. its all about controlling you. Government is here to control you. ELD is not the worst scam perpetrated upon drivers. Worst is yet to come-brace yourself as they will stick it in even deeper.

Last time I checked there are no shortages of the drivers "willing" to drive trucks with driver facing cameras, which is like a death sentence to the occupation and the people in it. Convoy my arse. There is no object big enough not to fit in a trucker's arse. Sure they can monitor those cameras at will, driving or not, that's the point of them.

Btw, my former company installed cameras in its American trucks, but those pinko commy Canadians drive without cameras. Apparently the bosses are confident that they can stick just about anything to the american stiffs and they will take it with a smile. Canadians do not allow owners to impose indignities of their choice on the peons just because they believe it will make them more money.

I’ll put up with quite a bit of crap...you kind of have no choice to in this line of work, but cameras pointed at me in the cab is where I draw the line. (That and hair testing.)
