If given a choice between the 2 I'd take an early e7 with the old style pump '91-'97 over the mp8 just for the reliability of the old macks. 900k motors never been opened and uses about .5-.75 gal between oil changes. Hardly any blow by got a lot of life left in it still. This past summer ditched the 9 and got a double over 13

@Ezrider_48501 what boost are you getting with 460? My dads 93 was a 350 getting around 26ish psi I think. After putting on the blixxton module that claims 30 percent gain and backed up by Antrim boost went up to 35-36 on a cold day. Bigger turbo would keep the egt down on big hills but they haven't gone up too much just have to back off some on the big ones

I was going to say, there must be something good done to your motor because when I had my 2000 E7 460, 18 speed, 4.11 rears pulling walking floors grossing 140,000 pounds there was no way I was keeping up with the 8 475 Cat's and Series 60 500's I was running with. We all had the same trailers and loades and gearing.
I liked the Mack, it did good considering the lower torque rating compared to a Cat, but there was no way I was keeping up with a 475 C15.

Now I have a DD15 505 and the MP8 505's will walk all over me.

I got to demo a mp8 445 high torque m drive 3.42 gears short rubber in the summer if felt stronger than my 427 with a 13spd 3.70 on short rubber I would not want a mp8 with these crazy tall gears they a pushing mpg be ###### I liked the m drive the way it was set up it would run 65 in 12 and 11th gear

For the last year, I've been running a 2015 Mack Pinnacle with a MP7 395C (395hp/1560tq) and the M-drive. For a little motor (11L) it's not bad, but I question the mindset the company had when they bought these. For LTL or some other sub-80k application, it's probably a great motor. But when you tack 75k to this little doggy's tail, he starts huffing and puffing real fast!

I'm constantly putting the transmission in performance mode, which makes it run through every gear and upshift at 1,800rpm, just to get some pulling power out of it when I am loaded. I'm only averaging around 6.5mpg, with half my miles loaded around 75k and the other half empty or bobtail.

I can attest to the fact that it would walk all over an AC380/410 similarly loaded, and I can even pull away from some of our Cascadias with DD13s & 10spd autos. Now before any Detroit bashers start hyperventilating, the truck in question was a wore out, castrated 2012 with 700k on it that I was spanking.

I just wonder what line of bologna our company was sold on to go for this package in the first place, when they had been buying MP8 445Cs with 13spd sticks up to that point. These MP7 trucks are getting worse fuel mileage and working way harder taking off or going up hills. There are long hood Petes and Kenworths out there running 600hp that are capable of getting the same mileage I'm getting.

My dad ran a CL713 years ago with an E7 454, 15 speed & 4.10 rears. What a truck! It was a tri-axle tractor daycab. He hauled lowboy with it along with other things like regular flatbeds. I remember riding with him when I was a kid and passing big Pete's going up Rt. 22 in Western PA. If I could have any truck right now I'd take that one
