I've only ever looked at taking a split-break, as a solo driver, when I've miscalculated time required to get to a customer and notice I'm going to run out of hours before I arrive. It's better to be a couple of hours late than a couple plus a couple more. I've used it a few times this year and I still cannot accurately predict how much driving time I have left after I take the 8 hours in the sleeper. I usually get it right, but I've also woken up just before my 8 hours are finished, waiting on my e-log to tell me it's OK to drive and then seeing it show me less time available than I was counting on. I can see the value in using it daily. For me it's more trouble than it's worth.

Do you have 2 hours of off duty time from you pickup? An 8-2 split can also work as a 2-8 split.

If you had off-duty and on-duty (Not driving) time mixed together at the shipper, you might be able to get creative with editing and make a 2 hour block of off-duty time.

If you can make the load a 2-8 split, it will be tight, but looks doable.
