If it involves a Canuck, it's Cabotage. They're our worst border problem!
Wallyworld is a conspiracy of the Canucks. The Mounties require a receipt from Wallyworld for them to get back into the country. You heard it here first! enquiring minds know!:biggrin_25517:

No, the Canadian can't be any part of it... can't be in the truck. Likewise, the American can't be in the truck for any Canada-Canada freight moves.

CBP officer at the border, Border Patrol, any other LEO, DOT, or pretty much anyone could drop a dime to CBP. Likewise, in Canada, CBSA, RCMP, etc. It becomes an immigration thing and the risk is lifetime banishment from the country.

I like the out of box thinking here . . . but - if

    . . . this is correct, then you’ll have to rethink this one . . . again!!

By the way - thanks for your information here @not4hire . We’re all about following the rules - just an endless search for loopholes in the quagmire of regulations.

    Oxbow and Liquidforce Thank this.

Sorry, not4hire is not correct here. There is no immigration law in either country prohibiting a foreign driver without work status being in the truck as part of a team. A foreign driver in the truck is simply prohibited from driving (working) on any leg of the trip that would involve a point-to-point movement of freight in that country. Some companies now utlize mixed teams consisting of both nationalities, they are highly valued. Obviously, a team consisting of 2 drivers with work status in both countries would be the best option, but that would be rare.

I'll take your word for it as my limited search didn't come up with anything to the contrary. There was also another driver who posted they did this.

I would caution though, that the driver ensures the carrier is also legal for such moves, which not all are. If it were me, I would want to be absolutely certain, especially with the current U.S. administration.

Certainly it could be very beneficial, but could also bring much greater scrutiny. As an example; I have been working in aviation the last year and-a-half and although it is very clear that certain types of work are explicitly allowed to be done by foreigners, it cost a company I consult to about $25,000 and two years of time where their employees could not enter the U.S. to get it sorted out. Even now, any time their employees enter the U.S. they undergo significant secondary inspection (as long as a couple extra hours).
