I've heard a lot of talking mumbling and big trucking companies pushing for a all commercial trucks being governed. The talk is still 58 to 65 M.P.H. how long do you think it's going to be before they do that now. Everytime I turn around there's something new in the works that I don't like. I'm starting to think about staying with hot shots.

I hate to say it but it seems like the ATA only speaks for the Mega carriers.

Mechanical governors existed long before MFI, EFI or DFI or ECM's, but anyone with half a brain could defeat them.

And when that doesn't "level the playing field", mebbe they'll push for wage caps. Then when that doesn't level the playing field, they'll push for a minimum 5k power units to apply for authority.

They only started governing the speeds by computer roughly the mid 90's I think one was limited to 55, which was not fun when everyone is coming off Fancy Gap at (I-77 NC) 80 plus.

Some of the better trucks were not governed until engine redline limits. Provides plenty of drive ability in difficult terrain.

A long time ago we used to have a large clock on the dash, inside the clock went a card. That measured your speed etc. It was checked daily. A certain speed got you automatically fired regardless of the situation.

If that we’re true, why would Swift just increase their governed speeds? Now that Swift matches my speed, I expect my company to increase my speed abilities. They better!

The Speed Limit Mandate was shot down. Where are you hearing this stuff? Do you have a link?

I remember one company deliberately setting a speed at which you are below torque in top gear and very close to redline in next gear down. The result is a constant shifting back and forth with trucks piling up around you. It's meant as punishment. They did not understand in those days how easy it was to reconfigure. That company does not exist anymore, they burned out in a couple of years.
