Deliveries are day shift, M-F at most of our places. There are loads that go into NYC (if you volunteer) that deliver on the weekend sometimes. And a customer in MN that has some weird delivery appointments (instead of FCFS). I have heard drivers say they deliver there at midnite, and I have delivered there anywhere from 0800 to 2200. They are huge, their facility takes up most of a city block, so we haul a lot of glass to them.

Miles, at least right now, are all over the place because it's the slow season, and the weather has been really extreme. I've had 1400 mile weeks and I have had 3000 mile weeks. End of the year, $65-70k is possible. The driver that recruited the other 2 Big G drivers that I were in orientation with managed to top $75k this year(not counting any retirement contributions), and he has only been here a few years

    It's Practical Mileage Pay, right?

Todays crate load delivery in CT was something new. An outdoor unload. And they unloaded the crates with a cable sling instead of a web sling. (Crates have a 2 x 6 attached to each side at the top so they can be picked up from the top.) In, unloaded, and gone in around an hour and a half, including my unsecuring time. I've had grocery warehouses take 3x that long on a partial load. The one thing I like about delivering to our customers is that they appreciate us bringing the product to them. How many grocery warehouse receivers thank you (not some half mumble of thanks, but an actual thank you with a smile) some of our receivers even greet you with a handshake and a smile.

Not really. It's a contracted distance with the shippers. And we haul for more than one glass manufacturer, so it varies. Sometimes it's not quite as far off as short route, other times it's more like practical.

Headed to Hialeah with another crate load...must be crate season. My 1st 4-5 weeks I hauled mostly double drop trailers, since then I have been pulling flatbed and single drop trailers, and the last half dozen loads have been crate glass. I guess even this type of trucking has it's seasons. I actually prefer double drop trailers. It means a little more physical activity, but that's part of the reason I went in this direction of trucking. After I deliver in S. FL this afternoon, then it's a deadhead straight back to the Church Hill plant.
