I'm not understanding the disconnect that people on this thread seem to be having that there is TX, and there are the rest of the states. States that don't have their own logging rules like Texas does. I'll say this one last time:
TEXASRULES
SUPERSEDE
FEDERAL
RULES
That's why we have them. No other state has them, so when it comes to TX logbook rules, your PA case law is moot. So is haulhand's Wyoming audit experience. There are literally hundreds...if not thousands of trucking companies that haul frac sand and water throughout TX that utilize the TX oilfield exemption. There's not much more I can say about this subject, so I digress.

I worked for Chalk Mountain Services for three years in South Texas. I made 70-75,000 K a year home everday. While never cheated on pay they are difficult to work for. The rules were known to change sometimes 180 degrees in less than 24 hrs. At Chalk it is ###### if you do ###### if you don't; hurry up and make up your ###### mind. You are responspible financially for the 1st $1000 of damages to equipment which is known as the "thousand dollar club". Drivers can and have been charged for damage they did not do, but did not note prior to moving equipment. Note- if you drop a trailer and someone else damages it later and no one witnessed it you might be charged as you were the last one recorded to have it. Company is poorly managed and nepotism is the name of the game with them which is why people are in positions they are completely unqualified for. Very few drivers are happy there because it is easy to get fired there (3 write ups) and you have that hanging over your head and they use it to bully you with. One driver was written up because previous driver left food on floor of truck and next driver did not feel it was his job to clean up after slobs. Drivers have also been written up for windshield fluid being several inches from the top (YES not joking). If you choose to work there and have read this don't ##### because you were warned in advance.
Rodeorowdy and bobthesailor Thank this. -
Sidenote a scratch on a trailer has been charged to drivers. Driver put a light scratch on hose tube and reported it. Chalk charged driver for two hose tubes (said they were welded together), all hanging hardware, end cap setup complete, and 5 HOURS labor!! Not an isolated incident. This driver was later fired for his 3rd write up. 1st offense ticket in speed trap. 2nd offense light scratch on hose tube barely visible (if driver had wiped some dirt down it never could tell). 3rd offense driver opened trailer lids. Company does have policy of not opening lids, but forgot to send someone to open lids all drivers there opened their own lids except the last one who called in about it and so driver was fired- draw your own opinions.
