Well when their trainers are people with three months of experience and the companies version of training is just running teams, this is what happens.
I work local and deal with a lot of megas, it's kind of sad how much people don't know.
amazing how bad the mega drivers are

It's more their hiring practices than the megas themselves. I think to fill seats they lower the standards a notch. That's the problem.

They’ve dumbed it down so much all you have to do is push the drive button and release the brakes and you have a job....The megas are that desperate to fill seats.
Take away the auto shift and how many of these so called drivers would have a job ? Most of them would still be driving an office desk.BigBob410, HalpinUout, motocross25 and 2 others Thank this. -
You're assuming they have enough intelligence to even ask "would you like fries with that?"Tall Mike Thanks this.

taking a corner should be habit and it should be done exactly the same every time. brain fart? LOL the guy hopped the curb with the trailer and not just a little bit either. the company i work for has a multitude of equipment that is dented, busted up and otherwise smashed. everything is legal but from an image standpoint its pathetic. i drove a day cab that has a bent fairing from a jack knife. how to do you jack knife a day cab? you have a ton of clearance between the trailer and the tractor. allot of drivers just dont care, well i do.... driving busted equipment is an embarrassment. nobody is perfect but i lost count of how many times i get my butt out of the seat and look to see where the trailer is going to be when im backing on the blindside.
common sense and simple steps like GOAL can prevent you from having these accidents. am i perfect NO, is it possible that i might have an accident? of course, but i will take every preventable measure to try to not have it happen. if you didnt get out and look or use your mirrors its called stupidity but accidents can and do happen. -
sadly i was looking on schnieders website 85% automatic transmission fleet. as for me grab gears or go home.... i have ZERO interest in driving an autoshift..... sometimes i miss a gear or grind a little im not perfect, but when i do it perfectly it feels great going through the gears and splitting them like a pro. its an 18 speed if you guys are familiar with an 18 speed, its the transmission with the grey side button. it allows you basically grab 1/2 of a gear. every gear has a hi and a lo. 1LO/1HI, 2LO/2hi.... usually i only split the upper gears 5-8 when im loaded, but there are times pulling a heavy load up hill that i split 3 and 4.
if these people cant shift a simple 10 speed they are missing out. sad.48Packard Thanks this. -
If your boss bought you an automatic would you drive it or quit and take your chances at another company?
Since you drive the same route everyday, you should know what to expect out of trucks that are new to your area, so get on your CB and offer them help before they ask.4mer trucker and gentleroger Thank this.
