DOT allow over weight when pulling reefer?

    What are you guys talking about? DOT definitely is OK with you being overweight when you're pulling reefer. They'll even have you come inside the scale house so they can give you a personalized certificate for being overweight!

    You can be over 12k on the steers if your tires and axle are rated for higher, but you can't exceed the lower of those weights. For instance, if your axle is rated for 20k, but your tires are rated for 14, you can be at 14k on your steers. What you definitely can't be, is over 80k gross on the interstate without a permit. I do believe they also give you 400-500lb if you have an APU. I've never had one, so I haven't tested this. I asked DOT when they were writing me a 1400lb over axle ticket for my drives though, and they said there's an allowance for an APU, but wouldn't tell me how much it is.
