On a different note, I looked in the trailer loading next to mine this morning and saw something strange in the front, so I walked in there and checked it out.
Sure enough, there was a strap on the floor and one of the dock drones set a skid on top of it. Morons....

The hazmat compliance unit of the MD Dep’t of the Environment loves to harrass any truck they see wearing a placard, and they’ll certainly cite a driver for any or all of these.

I'm not a fan of those scary white placards with the skull-and-crossbones and the number 6 on them. Creepy. That's when I make my standard "I'm sorry, but I can't haul this - it requires a hazmat endorsement" joke.

Make friends with the guys in the maintenance shop. It makes life a little easier when you show up to get something fixed in a hurry. Less grumbling and eye rolling.
I always stop by on my way out to go home just to say hi and BS for a few minutes. It keeps me up to date on the local gossip, and I hear at least one stupid driver story that has me rolling with laughter.
Last night they told me about a team driver that got stuck in the wash bay. He forgot to crank up the legs on his rear trailer and got hung up halfway through. He ended up calling dispatch and asking them to call the shop to shut the water off so he could get out.sdaniel, LoneCowboy, Cardfan89 and 2 others Thank this. -
Also, offer to do small things to help THEM out. Like roll a tire over to them, fix your own taillight while they are fixing something else.
Help them clean their tools up, after they are done fixing what you needed fixing.
Small things help a lot, and can make things run a lot smoother.Gearjammin' Penguin and MACK E-6 Thank this.
