If you drive a John Deere 4020 like the one in your avatar, then you know how to take care of your equipment. Does your 4020 have the pedal throttle in addition to the hand throttle? We could get a few extra rpms with the pedal, but was too hard on the right leg to press it for too long.
-
That's just an internet picture, but yes our 4020 had the pedal. Dad said not to use it he called it "override" the same as pulling the knob on the end of the throttle out and pulling it on down. He was particular.
-
We always pulled the knob out on the end and down for the extra rpms. Dad said it was fine.....he said if you pulled it hard during the break in period it would always pull hard. If John Deere put those extra rpms there, he thought we should use them. Never had to touch the motor.
We never really used the foot pedal, easier to use the hand throttle. -
I used it occasionally and most people did, I just usually found it better to do as dad said.

Do you guys know of any YouTube video that best explains how to float the gears? I’m practice once I get my own truck. Lol
-
This is the best way I've found to float em.
Rollr4872, Dumdriver, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
I grinded gears just like that my first time at my CDL school.

That night, the truck curled up in a corner in the fetal position and sucked it's thumb and thought about reevaluating its decision to be a trucking school practice vehicle.Dan.S, Travelworld2067, Rollr4872 and 5 others Thank this.
