So I'm getting ready to jump on board at Schneider and to lease a truck through Schneider finance. I know some of you left Schneider to come over to Mercer. What was the process like? What particular hoops did Sni finance make you jump through to move your truck? Where did you get your insurance between leaving Sni and bobtailing over to Mercer HQ?
I'm not 100% sure about this move, but I think it may be a good place to start considering I'm in Phoenix and both Sni Fi and Sni have a presence locally. I'm coming over from JCT where I had to drive to OK to pick up my truck and do orientation.
Thanks

So you leased at JCT, now once again doing another lease with Schneider so you can get a truck to move it to Mercer???? Why not just finance one?horsecrazychic22, Highway Sailor, thaistick and 1 other person Thank this.

I don't really want to put out that kind of down payment. I need a reserve for repairs and I just about have that covered.
-
There is no easy button to truck ownership. I strongly advise you put yourself and your family on a strict bare bones budget to save the down paynent.
The spending habits you will form make it 50 times more likely you are a successful owner operator.horsecrazychic22, RStewart, Highway Sailor and 4 others Thank this. -
Well I closed the week at 4600... not bad for 5 days lol
horsecrazychic22 and Highway Sailor Thank this. -
THanks for the advice, but I've been leasing for 3 plus years and have made it work, albeit not to the money level I'd like. I think this will be an upgrade. I have about 30 grand in the bank, all saved while leasing, so I think I know how to save money.
What I'm really interested in is the logistics of switching companies just in case Schneider ends up being just a side step instead of a step up. -
3 years how much Longer do you have? You can get a decent truck for $10,000 and if it needs a rebuild another $12,000 and you are Good to go...HalpinUout and spyder7723 Thank this.

I have 3 more years until the truck is paid for...I'm on a lease to own program. The first year I got a lemon out of the gate that cost me about 20000 to fix and maintain. I then got a brand new truck on a five year walk away and I've been driving this truck for 27 months as of today. About 3 more years until ownership. I'd rather book my own loads is my main motivation for leasing again and I'm morbidly afraid of used trucks due to past experiences. Anyways, I'll just as SchniFi about it.
Currently average 7 to 11 a week before taxes so I don't see how it can get any worse. -
How are u doing 7-11 a week when JCT pays .92 + FSC? Thats around 1.20HalpinUout Thanks this.

@RStewart explain to him that Schneider is a lateral move....
$30k is a great nest egg...
You have many options...
1. Finance a brand new truck with about $15k down. Depending on credit, a dealership or a lease company like Lone Mountain. Payments over 5 yrs at approx $2500/month.
2. Take your time a find a good used truck for about $15k. There are good deals out there. She might not be the prettiest, and with the right truck and learning how to do some of your wrenching you can do real well.
3. Find a $50-70k used truck, something with a little factory warranty left, put $15k down. Finance from a local bank or credit union. 2-3 yr term, $12-1600/month.
All these options leave you with $15k oh #### fund.
If you want to be an owner operator you gotta pull the trigger. You cannot steal second base with your foot on first.
Maybe your not ready, and that's fine too but jumping to Schneider to do another lease isn't a step up, some will say it's a step back....
Good Luckhorsecrazychic22, Highway Sailor, BoostedTeg and 2 others Thank this.
