any one have one of these? I know it’s crazy expensive but I wanted to see someone’s opinion before I buy it.

I wanted the gps and xm built in one. Will not use it for tablet use.

If I were you, I'd buy the GPS standalone device, as opposed to the combo tablet/GPs version. I have a lot of friends that bought the combo tablet/GPS versions and all of them had a myriad of issues with them and a lot of regrets. If you want a tablet, buy a tablet separately. It will cost about the same thing or probably be a little less expensive.

Moreover, be aware, the newer 540 and 740 navigation screens have been completely redesigned, and when they did it, they screwed it all up because the fonts are too small to read from a distance. So be aware of that issue. In fact, because of that issue, I'd recommend going with a 530 or 730.

I've been wanting to upgrade because my 730 is four years old. So I wanted to retire it and relegate it to backup status, but with that horrible navigation screen on the 740s, I will try to skip this upgrade. I can't believe Rand McNally didn't pay attention to their drivers.

Well thanks for the info. Looks like Garmin may be a better option

I would avoid the new 540/740 gps units altogether. I made the mistake of buying a 540 the other day, and wound up returning it for a refund two days later. Rand McNally’s customer support was completely useless, and the fact that RM is now owned by another “investment group” (aka wall st goons)is very telling of why their customer service is so poor and well documented. Those idiots closed my case without responding!! I’d go for the old 530 instead which I’ve had mine for a year with no problems. I also have Garmin 770 which I keep as a backup and it works with no problem but the accuracy and meager truck stop data base is disappointing. The one good thing about Garmin is I can get traffic info on it with the stock mount & cord without having to screw around with WiFi.

There are several Garmin threads in this topic. I would suggest you find them and read them because Garmin's overall have even worse issues than Rand McNally's.

The Garmins have their issues too. One of the biggest complaints I hear is their POI database is way out of date and it is missing a ton of truck stops. Furthermore, the device also won't route you to most truck stops accurately as well.

I know it's a tough decision. Hey, I'm wanting to upgrade my four years old 730, but I won't do it because I hate the navigation display screen on the 740. So I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I hope Rand McNally doesn't wait as long as they usually do and releases a new model soon with the navigation display screen fixed back to the way it was in the 730, which to me is perfect.

We have the Overdryve Pro and have had problem after problem. Now on our 3rd ELD and 2nd tablet. It wants to freeze up all the time and acquiring a GPS signal gets tougher everyday. We wont even talk about the cheap mounting bracket, breaks off tabs all the time. Have had to order replacements 4 times since December. Went to do a fuel-mileage report, ha the darn thing don't match up to the portal. Oh yes, they get you with having to pay a subscription monthly to house your logs and info. They can't tell me why the mileage on our tablet is more than they show. Ask which one I was supposed to use and they told me the tablet. This would be a nightmare for a trucking line, could be thousands of miles off every quarter. Fortunately we just have one truck. Customer support is usually no help at all.
