Here is why people might be thinking you are lying:

Taken these statement together. What business class did you ever take, that said you can net $10k a month on a $15k investment? About an 800% annual rate of return you first year in business. When was those kind of returns and investments talked about in your college class room?

Just gonna put in a couple thoughts. Thank you to the posters who suggested things that might be useful, like who to work for, drive as a team, etc...

I am just getting started too. I can imagine that OP is just as excited about getting on the road as I am. Ya'all's horror stories are warnings that I take seriously, but I am excited anyway. Here's my thought... Money doesn't always make us happy.. It's the memories in life that make life worth living. If he spends that 15k making a heartful of memories, and learning, it might be worth ever penny.

Then there's the business degree... ANY business is better managed with a degree in business. Getting experience in a particular field means you have the knowledge from two angles. It could be a very useful 15k investment to drive. He'd understand the distribution end of a large company, which could enlighten him in another sector.

Sure, it's a hard life. It's dangerous. But the memories you all have could be priceless; the beauty of this country, the sights you can see during downtime, the freedom of the road are what many of you went into this for. It is what you make it.

Ok, so Mary Poppins aside... A friend of a friend told you... Might be better to work for a company as a team rather than invest in a truck. I'm not going O/O until that presents itself as a viable option to me. I don't want to handle all the unexpected expenses... or the expected ones, frankly :)

Good luck on your journeys. I wish you awesome times and great memories!

While I agree with most of what you stated I would like to add the trucking business is inherently shady. No business degree can prepare an individual for the lack of a better word street smarts needed in order to navigate the myriad of scams coming from every direction. Many people have succeeded going and buying a truck and blindly entering into logistics. Here is an example of having a degree in logistics and jumping in feet first w/o practical experience. The show shipping wars ( I know it's scripted) there is a couple on the show whom hold degrees in logistics , but fail or barely getting by depending on ones view while putting the degrees to practicle aplication.

I don't agree with a few things, it is like any other business, they are all shady.

Also for every ONE person who succeeds doing this blindly, there are 20 others who fail, in good times that number increases to maybe 35 or 40.

Shipping Wars wasn't just scripted, it was a giant commercial for uShi**. I know the only two out of the 11 who were on the show knew what the hell they were doing and they did this as a profession, not as a clown show. The two clowns I think you are talking about had no clue what they were doing and they didn't have any degrees in anything.

U all wrong. Is all a big gamble. I have started as a company driver 2 years ago just for 3 weeks. After that I decided to buy my on tractor.
Started with 5k down payment and 5k for the road. Toady, after 2 years I own a nice condo in South Florida, I take my time off with my family WHENEVER I feel like. Is just about how much of a thrust you put into your self. U need to be smart and strong.....never give up.
    Good luck .
