THE DREADED NORTHEAST

endless traffic, limited truck parking, horrible roads, crappy weather, miserable people, ya its fun, but thats really the whole east coast these days.

 

If you haven't been 'there' where do you run now? It is crowded and 'space' is at a premium up there.

 

I try to limit my tours up there to twice a year MAX. The scenery is as beatiful as any place else I've ever been. To me driving up there is more like work than driving most other places and the parking... as long as you don't need 'services' there are plenty of places to park.

 

Avoid 95 if you can. You'll be fine

 

Cut my teeth in the northeast 30 plus years ago and still prefer it .
The northeast is no worse than LA , Chicago etc .
Just get to know it and get good at it ...nothing will intimidate ya anymore .

 

Know where you are stopping. Those POS rear areas on the Jersey pike suck worse than a Hoboken lot lizard. Always full and a good way to get bent fender disease.

Staging up outside the city can mean an entire day just going in delivering and getting back out depending on conditions and location.

And just let me add **** Boston. Let the Micks up there starve. I like the Dropkick Murphy's and all but those mooks consider merging a personal challenge of their manhood.

Lot of easy stuff downstate Jersey, Upstate New York, Vermont is nice during their three weeks of summer. After that lump them in with Boston.

Connecticut is as bad as the Cross Bronx. Watch anytime you leave the interstate. Building bridges more than 12 ft off the ground scares them or something. Must be the heights.

Jughandles. Learn what the hell a juggle is. It is not a bar, liquor store, speak easy.......

Sure wish someone would have told me before I went to Jersey.

 

• Early to bed, early to rise. If you’re not parked by 1600, you’re not getting a parking spot.
• Timing is everything.
• When going up to New England, if you can, drive up 81 through Scranton, PA and take 84 straight to CT, much less traffic than 80/287/95 and the Newburgh Beacon bridge toll is cheaper than the Tappan Zee bridge. Avoid 95 in unless you absolutely have to use it.
• There are low bridges EVERYWHERE, so be on the lookout.
• Be prepared to do some tight alley docks.

Honestly, it’s not much different than the other major metropolitan areas. And for what it’s worth, Pittsburgh is by far the worst city in the country to pickup and deliver to. Even NYC is easier. I promise you the rest of the Northeast is not that bad.
