one of our drivers tells me he runs with a radar detector

Big fine worth about a weeks pay. Most o/os hide them in the grill with a on /off toggle switch hidden in plain site in the cab.

 

He’d probably get fired if he’s a company driver

 

Lets see here. Most (company) drivers are driving trucks set at 70 or 65. Most police today use laser. Even if you had a detector that can see laser by the time it goes off the cop has the ticket 1/2 wrote. Then a driver wants to risk his job and pocketbook? Let the bullhaulers worry about a detector. Really don't make much sense for a (company) driver.

 

They make some really good ones these days. Rumor has it any way

 

Police lidar (laser) which is used more often than the old radar requires the laser beam to travel between the lidar and the target vehicles approx 900 times before it gives a reading. This is accomplished in about 1/4 second. If someone has a detector that picks up a lidar the officer will have a lock even before the driver has a chance to take his foot off the gas. Not worth the hassel in my opinion.

 

I quite often do the speed limit, or less.

I may do over some time.. but this new thing ... ELD will put you over in most states..

 

It helps against moving police cars though. In my younger days I got multiple speeding tickets from the cops who were driving behind or towards me
