Spent several days/weeks reading this thread. Does that make me a masochist? Considering a return to trucking. Was interesting to see how the information dried up here the last couple of years. The Facebook thread must be a hopping place now!

I gotta ask what happens after you get done with the mentor. Do they send you home for a bit? Cuz with the Denver school(let my CDL A lapse due to no $) and the trained it'll be end of november til i might see home again.

Unless it's changed, you're given the opportunity to go home for seven days after you finish mentorship.

Kinda dumb question but what's the deal with running orange juice? Is it illegal? I myself am a big oj fan I was reading this forum to form an opinion on Stevens transport but this orange juice thing has sparked my curiosity.!?

Tropicana orange juice loads out of Bradenton, FL. They are usually booked on a tight schedule. But they are not such that if you drive your hours, you can do the load.

When I worked for Stevens, I hauled 2 loads out of FL. They were both Tropicana, and they were both very overweight.
I don’t know if it’s changed at all - this was over 4 years ago - but both loads were drop & hook, there was no scale on the facility, the trailer was sealed before they parked it, and once you received the BOL, the load was not allowed back on the property. The closest certified scale was about 60 miles away, too.
My first OJ run was 4000 over gross and 2000 over on the drives with the axles all the way up. It also had 6 stops on it.
The second one was 6000 over gross, and I refused to haul it, which went over really well.

The company I haul for now does Florida’s Natural out of Lake Wales, FL, and I tell you what... Night and day experience. Yes, I nearly always have to live load there, but they’re usually pretty cool about it if I run out of hours, and they let me take my break there. And the loads? I’ve not been overweight once. I’ve also never had more than 2 drops on one of their loads.

    Jarhed1964 and Awol Thank this.
