Today’s run: Drop empty and pick up van loaded with 1.1 explosives at noon and move it 382 miles and then babysit the load until receiver opens at 0500 tomorrow. My revenue after the 70/30 split is $1476, or $3.86 per mile. This is DOD freight and has to be attended at all times and can’t park anywhere longer than four hours. It’s also explosives so you aren’t supposed to park within 300 feet of a building. I am not allowed to get to the receiver before 0100. As you can see pulling this kind of freight is a pain in the butt. I don’t know what the current rates are on regular non-hazmat freight but I’m wondering if I could do as well or better hauling Cheerios.

I've got a truck hauling racks of parts tonight. A 300 mile trip, pick up any time before 11pm and deliver when ever the driver gets there, to the truck is $1350.

The driver will get loaded with product for another factory on the way back, same price and goes right back to pick up another load of parts on racks.

How do you do a legal break if you aren't allowed to sit anywhere longer than 4 hours?

Someone is bidding way to low and they don’t care about your time.
Hauled one legal load today, left home after breakfast and back home for dinner, 78 Miles , $1800

Never hauled Cheerios but I used to haul Raisin Brand for General Mills. That stuff is really heavy, and I was pulling high cube trailers loaded floor to ceiling. The bottom row would frequently get crushed and I would show up at the terminal with a couple pallets of cereal. Our drivers always had regular bathroom visits for a week or two after those loads.

We have a special thing on the QUALCOMM called on duty rest. That way you can still attend a load but you get to take your half hour break at the same time. We run as a team so whenever I run out of hours she takes over.

One stupid little 61' piece of pipe weighing next to nothing, but have to contend with permit restrictions. $4.60 to the truck on 1,000 miles.

I'm annoyed 'cos the guy running my 53' trailer delivered a legal load at $4.25 on 440 miles. Grrrrrr. (We have a friendly competition going, he still trumps me on $10/mile legal load - 600 miles).

I can trump both of you, but some would say I’m making up numbers.
