Flatbed accident photo!

It's a shame that used to be a spread axle trailer...

 

Those ditches just jump out at you sometimes.




I actually seen literally the same thing about a year ago at a job site on Gandy in Tampa. There was a luxury apartment complex being built. Cypress flatbed was delivering lumber to the jobsite and forgot he had a trailer behind him. From what I could see he had some grade A securement too.

 

Winner.

 

Looks like he ran out of talent.

 

I'm not sure he's more than 53 feet long. He's still got one hanging off the end. As dumb as engineers are, they usually don't draw beams to be longer than 53'. Steel utility poles, yes, heck, they'll make them 57' or 58' long, but they usually keep beams legal to ship.

I think the problem is that he forgot he was longer than 48' or 45' or whatever that trailer is when it's not stretched. He needed to be way out there in the middle turn lane before he started. And he needed some nice spread axles so the front one would ride over the ditch in the air, then then back one. Tandems are no good for this kind of thing.

 

Clearly he was on the phone with the graphics shop ordering the decals for the truck he just bought. That, or he was surfing on the chrome shop.

 

Depends entirely on the length and where he was. He may well not have even needed a permit for that load. Or in some states, he may have needed a permit (if that's over 53 feet) and banners, lights, pilot cars, etc. Some states get stupid.

 

He’s stretched out, you can see right above his drive tire the beginning of the gap and the other end is between those utility markers. I see long steel beams all the time, they’ll make them any length you want.

 

What do flatbed guys get paid for all that strap work? I saw one yesterday with about 10 different pallets. Must have taken him a few hours to secure all that.
