    Yeah, and then there also is the aspect of the spread from the with of the trailer. The angle of the tiedown from the edge of the coil to the edge of the trailer or tiedown point.

    Is our chain rated at 6500 WLL really worth 6500 like that?

    Here's what you are ignoring. You aren't just chaining down to the deck. The chain at an angle is putting some downward force on the coil, holding it in the rack, but the less effective it is at doing that, the more effective it is at simply holding the coil back (or forward, depending on where the chain is.) You lose effectiveness one way and gain it another way.

    I understand that part. You take a tiedown and use it to do two jobs instead of one. It will only do half the job for each direction.

    I see how it could have a cumulative effect. But if it's at a 45 degree angle it will be attached past the coil timber and not applying that much downward pressure. It would be doing more to prevent forward or rearward motion.

    But it took two chains to do that, a 45 angle, and the one on the other end would be almost useless. Two chains that could have been used for pulling straight down and working for movement in either direction, instead of just one.

    If you were moving a coil with only one chain on it where would you put it? Pulling towards the front, pulling towards the back, or pulling down in the middle?

    If I were trying to keep it from rolling I would chain it different than I would if I were trying to lift it.

    So you would do something different with that one chain? Not pulling forward or reaward nor pulling down in the middle?

    Yes, but if there is a preferred method for one chain why would more make a difference? Wouldn't more the same way the single chain was used be they way to go?

    It’s an illogical hypothetical, I wouldn’t expect 1 chain to limit movement except in 1 direction
