RM is absolute junk. Granted, the one and only I had was an IR 720, but, while it was great initially, it slowly became an unreliable paperweight over the course of a year. Even beta 'updates' couldn't solve the problem. Ditched it for a dEzl 770 and haven't looked back.
Garmin or Rand Mcnally ?

I went through three USB power cables with fried connectors before I started wrapping the cable around the mount before plugging in my Rand. The port connection is simply designed badly, leading to burned up cable ends as the cables work loose. Put pressure on them to hold them in place, and the device doesn't fry cable ends.

Funny, my problems had nothing to do with power. It simply started freezing up and doing anything but what I wanted it to do from about nine months on. Finally quit for good about three months after I replaced it (was still using it in my personal vehicle).Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

How's that still working for you??

Right I hear mix reviews ?? -
It's all going to be subject to personal preference, though I would venture that anyone who doesn't like the deZl 770 hasn't gotten the hang of its route shaping yet. I love mine.kwan2323 Thanks this.

Anyone with common sense knows you can't blindly trust GPS. I believe that is why the route shaping feature was integrated, to allow drivers to deviate from any such discrepancies. It also does give you the option to preview a given route for review.
I might also add, that ANY of these will need an update straight out of the box. No telling how long it has been on the shelf in a truck stop, or when it was made.
Any way you slice it, it blows the IntelliRoute out of the water, in my experience. I bought a Garmin 770 LMHT 3 years ago and I've not had any real issue.
If a given route was not to my liking, I could simply go into the route shaping menu and change it as desired. That is what this feature was designed for. I have also found that with any of these, you can add specific POIs as "stops" to route around such issues.
For example, running from Denver, Colorado to San Antonio, Texas, the Garmin initially routed I-70 to I-35 out of Wichita, KS to I-135 around Wichita Falls over to I-35 down to San Antonio. Likely it chose this based on time savings. Some might be okay with this, I was not. It was a perfect 90 degree angle on the map.
So, modifying a route my trainer taught me, I went into route shaping and selected US-287, US-385, I-27, US-287 and US-83 to I-10, (Limon CO - Lamar CO - Lubbock TX - Paducah TX - Comfort TX - San Antonio TX) which I seem to recall, saved around 209 miles, if memory serves. Also a lot less stressful, easier running, and more scenic route IMO.Last edited: Jul 4, 2018
