Op says replaced brakes cuz thought was the issue. And it worked for a week.

My money says brake adjustment. 1 week is about all you get on an adjustment with bad slacks. Course. Mileage may vary. 1 week is all i get though. I've currently got 3 bad slacks at the moment. But I'm not afraid to crawl underneath and adjust. It's better then having poor brakes while i wait for replacements.

I crawl underneath and adjust. Wood won't help you stop. A brake adjustment will.

Packing a wrench makes more sense then packing wood.

If I had 3 bad slack adjusters, I don't think I'd be bragging about it.

    I'm not afraid to brag.

What's the difference between bad adjusters and manuals? As long as they adjust. That's my main concern.

You missed the part where i said I'm not afraid to turn a wrench.

Some dirt haulers only use manuals. Because they go out quite frequently.
Drivers have to adjust every day. And boss's check em before they leave the yard.

I had a trailer like that recently, brakes would not hold lol I should have filmed it but I know I would have been buried under an avalanche of criticism. What I had to do was back up to a curb but it slid too far so I had to line up and hook the wheels and pull against the curb, I was all cattywompass across the truck stop entry lol but I finally found the right hole to make the weight legal lol.

Meanwhile a bulk tanker guy stopped to chat with me and said not too many people know that trick any more....

Holy ####!!!! Did you just say you adjusted your own brakes??? You're not allowed to do that according to 90% of the folks on this website lol :p

DOT don't know if the slacks are adjusting correctly or not. All they are concerned with is if the applied stroke is within the limits.

I have had a few trailer with weak spring brakes that wouldn't slide... I carry a set of wheel chocks for this very situation. I also carry tools to adjust the brakes when it is needed. Before I got the wheel chocks I had to crank the brake shoes clear down against the drums once to slide the tandams then readjust the brakes.

I had some pushbutton trailers that wouldn't slide. Amazingly, I got in and just gave them an easy nudge, recycled and they moved perfect.
