Not if it's a synchronized transmission.

Good way to tear up the synchros.

Floating a truck transmission is floating a truck transmission, no matter if it's a 6-speed, 10-speed or 18-speed, once you have the timing down, it's all the same

It really depends what transmission it is. You can give it a try. If it's difficult to find the gears or it "rubs," I wouldn't do it.

It depends on the trans, I have a six speed from an M102 sitting in my shop (don't ask how it got there, I can't figure it out) and it is a fully syncro trans according to the model number.

I'm with the other post. try it if it don't work don't do it. IF it works, go with it. Theoretically it saves wear on the clutch and clutch brake. From experience it saves wear & tear on left leg.

Anyone know what rpm a 6 speed typically upshifts and downshifts?

No, if you have a synchronized transmission it may go smoothly but you could be tearing up the synchros.

    Don't float a synchronized transmission.

Bean Jr., Samuelh, Oldironfan and 2 others Thank this.
