If you will be running in states that are notorious for bed weather and bad wrecks I would get one... It just may save your life, if you have it on anyway.
Wyoming in the winter is one place I wouldn't be without mine... A lot of the tow truck drivers there run them and you will sometimes be able to get advance notice of a wreck that may be blocking the road, or an advance notice of a road closure that has recently been closed.

Dennixx, SteveScott, Faintestidea and 3 others Thank this. -
- chat away a few hours on a long run if you find a good character to run with.
Dennixx and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
all depends on how much you like to be aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you while driving on the hwy, into the customers or around a truckstop.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

I never left home without it. Kept me out of a lot of bad situations, including the 50 car/truck pileup on I80 in PA and the 75 vehicle pile up in Ga several years ago
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Actually, the more I think about it - necessity.
It would save me writing “ No trailer lights” or “Flat tire” on a piece of paper, catching up to you, getting your attention, to watch you nod and continue driving -
OR -
Running up to your truck at a stop light to tell you about a serious issue -
Done both.rabbiporkchop, justa_driver and ShooterK2 Thank this. -
If you worked in a factory or an office with a bunch of other people all doing the same job as you but you couldn’t talk to them or hear them talk, do you think that would be a good thing? Now throw in the fact that we drive 80,000 pound trucks hundreds of miles a day with traffic, road construction, wildlife, hills, curves, etc.
You won’t catch me without a radio in my truck.Dennixx, Bob Dobalina, shogun and 2 others Thank this. -
Good analogy.

You’re a better man than I, Blair.
I’m guilty of hollering at a fella on the radio to let him know of a light out or whatever, and if I get no response, I just keep truckin. I guess I figure if he doesn’t have enough pride in his job to have a radio, he probably wouldn’t have enough to pull over and fix it if I did tell him.
It’s a quirk I need to work on.rabbiporkchop and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Don’t get me wrong - if I ride by and there’s a cell phone in hand or earbuds in and no sign of a radio, then they get the disapproving head shake and I motor on - well away from their shedding tread or brake fire . . .
I learned you can’t save ‘em all.rabbiporkchop, justa_driver and ShooterK2 Thank this.
