    Hey all.

I've been with USA since Oct. and have been in my own truck for almost 2 months to the day. I would like to get some advice on how to go about resigning smoothly.

I'm on home time at the house for 4 days, and my wife has been begging me to resign. I have been telling her that I'm going to do the year. Well today I went to breakfast with an old friend and I've got a job offer that I can't refuse that keeps me at home. Needless to say the wife has been flying around the house like it's Christmas all over again.

I have a few questions as this is my first experience with a trucking company and the dreaded DAC.

I have 2 more days at home before I RTW. Do I inform my FM now? or wait until I RTW? Also I am not able to give 2 weeks notice...and on that subject, I really don't want to haul more loads unless the pick up is reasonably close to the house and is routed to Vandalia for a relay so I can turn the truck in there.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am just trying to resign smoothly given the limitations stated above and avoid getting my DAC screwed with.

As far as my experience with the company, the good and bad have pretty much balanced out. My miles have been good, lowest week was 2300, highest was 3200. My first truck was a complete POS. 9400 with #### near 500,000 miles. That was rectified 2 and a half weeks ago after the mass whacking when I got one of the poor schmucks that got the axe's 2009 Pro star. Nice truck.

For newcomers considering USA, my 2 biggest complaints were the importance of maintenance (or lack there of) at the company (I take better care of my lawn mower than they do their truck/trailers). I don't really blame the mech's...I think they are just completely overwhelmed and have the 'I don't give a #####' as a self defense mechanism.

Also the level of confusion on trips is sometimes astonishing, usually a result of a disconnect between day dispatch and night/weekend dispatch, but sometimes a result of my FM having 'over 60 drivers to deal with'.

Also, as has already been posted in the 'Axe' thread...you are expendable at USA. If you are a person that likes to do a good job and develop a re pore with the company you work for you will not find that here.

Again, any experienced info/advice on a smooth resignation is appreciated..thx.

don't wait, clean out the truck and return it to the Vandaila terminal, turn the keys in the head mechanic and have him check the truck for damage and sign off on it before you leave, call your FM or his boss relay your reason (s) for quitting and be on your way with a clean CDL and a big school bill to paid...

Whatever your decision maybe, make sure you communicate thru the qualcomm. Phone conversations are not recorded but qualcomm is. You don't want a abandonment on your DAC.

Personally, I would go to the truck and send a message to your DM and tell him. You enjoyed your stay at USA and I would like to know where do you want this truck returned. You might have to haul a load or two, to get it to there designated yard. So be prepared to drive. Congrats on the new job.

Adding to what the others said.

There won't be any 2 weeks notice. You may give one, but they're gonna can you out of the gate. The nature of the beast.

Of course, if they can #### with you for a few extra days, and cause you to lose the new job. They probably will.

Call them today, send it on Q-com too. And just MAYBE they will bring you straight to the yard......any yard that takes 4 days to get to.

well, if you went through C1 and then got hired in at USA you'll be stuck with the tuition bill, the full amount, if you don't give USA a year of driving. Couple guys I went through C1 with quit within the first couple weeks there and they both got bills for around $5000. Now if you're credit already sucks, then no big deal, but if you got good credit, just do your year.

There really isn't any easy way to quit a trucking company. if you do go back out for your 2 weeks be prepared to get shafted. If I were you I would q-comm them and take the truck to their yard and have them sign off on it. I would not want the risk of being stranded in the middle of nowhere for a few days and not getting any decent runs back home. my opinion only

There is no smooth resignation from usa truck. Anyone who quits will find the following on their DAC from usa.

    abandoned truck
    late deliveries
    damaged vehicle
    owes money

    So, good luck.

Clean out everything while you are home. Hard to say. Some companies will leave you hanging. Some will lay you over somewhere on spite. Another way to look at it is if they was going to terminate your services would they give you a 2 week notice? I have had both good and bad experiences giving a 2 week notice. It is a flip of the coin with trucking companies. Good luck!
