Holy crap @sherlock510 there's alot of deer on that road. They're like every 500 feet and you're mowing them down like Mad Max.
Don't swerve for deer...

Tonight, first night back on the job. I loaded, then less than 30 miles up the road, I see a deer up ahead, coming across the 2 lame highway from the left. I slow down, see there's a second deer following.
I hit the second one. This was about 2-1/2 hours ago, 950 pm, still twilight. It took out the left head light cluster. I turned around and took the rig back to the shop. I called the on call dispatcher at home, as the shop was closed for the night.
Just hope I still have a job. -
up here in northern Alberta deer are as thick as mosquitoes. I have an aluminum Herd bumper for critters, it will bounce a deer off no problem, I don't even slow down for them...just leaves a shiny spot if I'm lucky enough that it doesn't explode blood, guts, and crap all over my rig.
hitting a moose is a different story, it will knock the guard back into the hood but usually not enough to damage the rad.Highway Sailor, Lepton1, Odin's Rabid Dog and 1 other person Thank this. -
I seriously almost hit a deer with the yard goat.
free spirited1, Odin's Rabid Dog, rank and 2 others Thank this. -
Just called dispatch. I still have a job yay!
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Every company should install wildlife bashers on the front of their trucks, the full size ones. Cheap az.z companies now days
Odin's Rabid Dog Thanks this. -
Yeah just hit the deer so you can be down for a week, and out a couple grand. Every #### truck from the factory should have full size deer catchers.
Lepton1 and Odin's Rabid Dog Thank this. -
I hit one three weeks ago in North Dakota. Thankfully they are small there. It was standing in my lane and never moved. A car was passing me at the time. Bent the bumper but no other damage. I straightened it out some, but will replace it when I have time.

Many moons ago, heading up 191 out of Rock Springs, come around this curve and find a large dead critter in the right lane. Many birds feasting on it, as I get closer, they all lift off, I notice one is larger than all the rest, that largest one turned out to be a bald eagle, for a few brief seconds we were eye to eye through the passengers side window before he lifted up. Had he made a hard left as I approached, he would have come through the windshield. My only thought, if he comes in, I'm going out, ain't no way I'm sharing the cab of a semi with a wounded pissed off bald eagle. From talking to the ladies at the scale in Alpine, even if the bald eagle commits suicide, by federal law until it's investigated, I can be cited.
So far in 2018, 3 hawks, 2 owls, 6 pheasents, couple dozen starlings (Colorado Dept. of Wildlife gave me permission to kill as many of those as I want), 2 pigeons, 2 doves, 3 rabbits, and I bounced an antelope off the side of the trailer. Month back, coworker hit a deer with the drivers front step, #### thing went left, as he passed it, it went right, hit the truck then off into the woods. Found about a 6" strip of fur and skin attached to the step.Lepton1 and Odin's Rabid Dog Thank this. -
No deer strikes last night, but 2 close calls, one of which involved very hard braking on my part. I saw dozens of deer, man they're pretty this time of year, almost red in color. I also saw quite an elk herd up near Graves Creek.
Oh, yeah, and the shop guys went up yesterday, looking for the rest of the hood. I thought it was all still hanging there by wires and molding, but apparently some pieces were missing, and wanted to see if they could salvage enough to band aid it, at least temporarily.
Anyhow, they found my deer (carcass) laying in the field near where I reported it, it was a small spike. I have mixed feelings on it, but I'm just glad I didn't hit another one last night.
Now, to avoid drunk drivers tonight.
Be safe and happy Independence Day, everyone.Lepton1 Thanks this.
