Last year I was heading east on I 44 on the outskirts of Wichita falls Texas. I saw a nice buck heading across the westbound lanes from my north. I started slowing down, anticipating that he would cross in front of me and hoping that I could miss him. He got to the median, and he stopped. Perhaps my engine brake startled him. At that point, he reversed course and headed full tilt back north. A TMC truck was in his path and he bolted headfirst into the driver side window. He had a very nice rack, and I can’t imagine how startled that driver must’ve been. I couldn’t tell for sure, but I don’t think it busted it completely out. I felt bad for that guy, and I’m certain he probably needed clean shorts.
Don't swerve for deer...

Glad you mentioned engine brakes. That's become my favorite way to ward off ungulates. I think it must sound like a growling cougar to them.
Deer whistles aren't worth a ####, unless you mean to attract them.Odin's Rabid Dog Thanks this. -
A couple of years ago I took one out with a Volvo pulling wiggle wagons. No swerve just keep her straight. Took out the right side bumper piece and the headlight. That said the wife and I took out a 40 lb fawn at seventy mph with the Indian Roadmaster on Sunday. Kept her up but around 2 to 3 grand in damage
I wont know for sure until the estimate. Rode her home tho.Lepton1 and Odin's Rabid Dog Thank this. -
Several months ago a friend of mine who drives for us stopped at a rest area and did a walk around. He was pulling a double drop trailer, and when he reached the back there was a dead deer laying on the back deck. He still doesn’t know exactly how it managed to get there. We have speculated that perhaps someone else hit it and it flipped onto his trailer, or that it ran into his trailer somehow and flipped up on the deck. I thought it was pretty funny, and I’m sure there were some curious gazes and comments from people passing by as he drove along unaware. Interestingly, no other drivers called out to him on the CB to tell him. He has no idea how long it had been there.
