I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. That's a very tragic ending.

Reminds me of the situation with one of my older brothers. After he graduated from high school he went to University of Illinois at Chicago and then later to DePaul University and got his degree in finance. He got a job at the Chicago Board of Trade and moved to Chicago into an apartment and for awhile, he was doing good(this was around 1991/1992, I was just starting high school at that point). He was paying off his student loans (with a little help from our mother of course) and maintained a comfortable living. All of that came to a screeching halt in 2008 when the economy tanked and he was laid off. He went back to school to get a bachelors(later a masters) degree (Again, focusing on finance). The problem is for every job application he’s filled out there’s over 200 applicants, plus he’s OVERQUALIFIED,inspite of the fact he’s sent out applications not only nationwide but worldwide ,with the same results.
He now lives with my mother, still filling out job applications but it has been frustrating for him especially with all the student loan debt he’s dealing with.
The irony of it all is sickening- my brother did everything right and he ended up living with my mother. -
A lot of it is because those big companies run Canada.... that country is super strict on people coming in even if they have so much as a misdemeanor on their record.

Only if you are from the US and are honest.
Now if you're a terrorist from the middle East, they welcome you with open arms. -
I know a highly educated guy that was laid off as vice president of a nationwide company and had the same problem; overqualified. He went to cdl school and now is a trucker and says he loves it. A few of his neighbors got real snooty with him; they didn't want a trucker living in their neighborhood, but he's hardheaded and told them to their face that he couldn't care less about their opinions. In his younger life he was a commissioned officer in the USMC.Last edited: Jul 11, 2018
just_sayin, 88 Alpha, Oldironfan and 2 others Thank this. -
Forget the drama just learn to appreciate the good advice. The drama is just free entertainment. Some of this is good advice and you are more concerned about the drama. Get the chip off your shoulder and show some appreciation.

Sometimes it just gets really old being refered to and or thought of as trash just because you got locked up for a mistake / bad choice you made.mjd4277 Thanks this.

Im not sure about seaports. Homeland will have to challenge him for a TWIC or access card before granting one so he can go there.
Regardless of the crime, essentially taking another life it's pretty serious. HOWEVER, IN US Law, if it is done to prevent or STOP a much more serious attack such as a rape or similar type threat it's justified. The courts generally are very very careful with this as you already know. I happen to be a licensed carry and I keep a list of Arkansas Law with a range of crimes from simple assault all the way to Capital murder to keep fresh in my mind what makes a good draw/shoot or a bad draw/prison.
What's done is water under the bridge.
Im trying to retrieve that list of DAC and FMCSA Disqualifying offenses either a few years, 5 years or life vs the trucking industry to see where VM falls under any of that.
One of the biggest workarounds ever is to run for a tiny read 1 or 3 trucks maybe company that does not check DAC or anything much. If they like your cut of jib talking with you face to face, you will be told to come in ready to work. I used that workaround myself twice in my life. Turned out to be very good employers and work actually. Trucking without the worry of DAC, stack of tickets and so on. Just plain rolling and working. -
stealing hub caps, or forgetting to return an over due library book, are far more different from manslaughter. i supposed you'd allow someone with that type of charge/conviction to date your daughter?
