Given that the PA Turnpike Commission keeps raising the toll rates (we apparently need more bicycle trails to freaking nowhere), I wouldn't be at all surprised to see most trucks finding different routes around.

Blasted turnpike is already overpriced! And the rate continues to climb.

I can tell you this, 30 from mcconnellsburg to Chambersburg has 9 and 10% grades and is not recommended for trucks. It may even be off limits to through traffic. I got smart years ago and decided to take 30 from where 76 and 70 split to go to Chambersburg, before the restriction, and it was a very bad move.
These days I have a run that takes me down 99 and across 70 and down into Virginia, but there are signs, off the top of my head I can't remember what exactly it says how far the restriction goes, I know it starts just east of breezewood...

    Edit
Back then I dragged a 13'6 all the way across it and didn't hit anything. Not only is it very steep, it's 2 lane where sometimes you need the oncoming lane to keep it on the road, and can't see oncoming traffic. Is it doable? Yes. Would I do it again? F no.

Those signs used to say something to the effect of:

"Truckers: Steep grades, sharp turns, and School buses ahead! Good luck!"

30 Is supposed to be restricted over Sideling Hill between Breezewood and McConnellsburg. If I remember right, the signs in Breezewood say to take the TPK to Ft Littleton, and then 522 back to 30 in McConnellsburg, which is what I've always done going down there. There is the one big hill between McConnellsburg and Ft Loudon, but it's mostly flat after that all the way out to Lancaster and beyond.

The stretch of TPK between Breezewood and Ft Littleton is the only part of it I run regularly. Otherwise I take 322 if going to York and points East or 422-22-99-30 if going to MD or points West of York. I have to add though, I'm not bothered at all by hills and mountains. Someone that is would probably be better off paying the outrageous tolls.

Well, this is how urban legends are made...

After taking the route I can say, that it was rather easy and suprisingly heavy on truck traffic.

    I took US322-PA350-I99-PA45TRUCK-US22-US522-US30.
And than up the same way.
    Both way over 75k gross.

Yes it’s hilly, but not much winding.
    Nothing worth taking a detour.
I would think teice about going this way in a snow storm maybe. But again, in a snow storm I wouldn’t want to go US322-US22 thru Harrisburg either.

Perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. Maybe it's only between breezewood and mcconnellsburg where you really shouldn't be with a big truck.

Now I want you to run that part so I can be at least partially right lol
