So start your day earlier so you can stop when there are still spaces to park in?
And why does the government need to step in? And, what exactly should they do?
Personally, I plan my time so that I stop early enough in the day to find a good parking spot.Lepton1, TripleSix, Balakov100 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's why I prefer to run at night... But it has been too #### hot as of late to sleep during the day... So when I can I start really early in the morning so I can get parked before the truck stops fill up.

E-Logs will solve the parking issue and bring world peace

That would be real nice if that was always an option. I don't know what kind of gig you run where you can decide what time your day starts every day, but many of us don't have that luxury. We have what are called delivery and pick up times that we must meet. If my pick up time is 8am and I have to drive for 10 hours to a receiver, I am going to end up being out of drive time around 9pm once I get loaded. Truck stops are full at that point. Not my fault, I would have loved to have been loaded at 4am, but I don't get to say when I get loaded.
What should the gov't do? Use some of our tax dollars and build more rest areas/parking areas along the highways. You can't produce a problem (elogs with no more fudging when or where you stop) but not provide a possible solution. I saw a Loves truck stop that was locked up by 4pm one day.
There is a lot of room along the interstate to make simple parking areas for large trucks. I'm not asking for a taj mahal, just a place to take my 10.CK73, RedTruckerDan and MBAngel Thank this. -
This is a business. It would be nice if some states increased their rest area truck parking capacity, but involving the government in anything is well . . . probably better discussed in the political forum.
I used to think like you - believe me. Then I bought a truck and became self employed, as in - independent. -
I would like to do the same, but whenever I try to change my appointments to suit my chosen early start times I get laughed at by my dispatcher.
What's your secret?. How do you get them to give you loads that suit you?. -
Well sir, I hate to burst your bubble this what it is. You won't always have the luxury to sleep at a truck stop or rest area. If you limit yourself to those, you will always trouble with parking. I've slept in Walmart parking lots, exit ramps, abandoned parking lots, shippers, receivers, side streets, you name I've done it, as well as almost everyone else on here. We are in the elog era, and you will have to be creative sometimes. I usually sleep at my customer, or near my customer. If that's not feasible, I'll get as close as possible to the customer. As an otr driver, if you try to run the same schedule with the same routines daily, you'll almost certainly fail at this. You trip plan your day, and be prepared to make adjustments. Try downloading trucker path. It's helpful in finding suitable parking areas
Lepton1 and SingingWolf Thank this.
