Apparently, some company recruited 48 drivers to their head-quarters and dumped 'some of them' without warning or bus-pass back home.

This guy is making it known what 'some' do.

    Who was it?
    • Celadon?
    • JB Hunt?
    • Navajo?

If they treated dogs like this, they would have 2-3 government agencies on them.

If you have to travel to a company's location without a firm job offer, that's a company that you should not work for.

I don't know of any company outside of trucking that would require an applicant to travel to their location for an interview without a paid round trip airline ticket, lodging and meal vouchers. I've had companies fly me across the country and back, put me up in 4 star hotels, have a rental car waiting, and reimburse my meal expenses just for the opportunity to interview me for a position. It was usually a 3-4 day stay beyond the interview day so that I could scope out the area to see if it was somewhere that I'd be comfortable relocating to.

Just say no to any trucking company that doesn't do this.

With the quality of workers that they have to pick from, it might have been every one of them failed a drug screen. Those should not be rewarded with a free pass, they knew what the rules are. If they let it slide for a few it will not be good for the rest of us.

Really? Just what trucking company does all of that? Because I don't know of any. And what company did this for you? Because I could handle going to an interview for a free mini vacation
OTR companies have hiring requirements other businesses don't have to follow. So even a firm offer of employment is no guarantee they can hire you if something happens before you get the keys to a truck & your first dispatch.
We have had 2 drivers at my local company loose eligibility to drive under federal guidelines.
The company didn't want to can them, they had too.

It was explained to me at one carrier that things can change between the invite & orientation so most of the vetting is done on sight. Believe it or not one of the biggest reasons for being shown to the gate is the drivers not having the proper info to pass federal requirements to get hired. They give you the info but people still show up unprepared.

Why should a company foot the bill for numpties who can't follow directions or maintain the ability for the carriers to hire them ?

You know these companies can come and remove drivers from trucks anywhere, even across the country with all the things the x driver left in the truck so make sure you are clean and truthful.

What federal requirements are there other than the ability to pass a federal chain of custody preemployment drug screen. A company’s prerequisites are just that! A company’s.

So are you hiring experienced class A drivers or not? You know what criteria I must meet when I arrive so the rest is nothing but formality.
If a driver meets all of the requirements over the phone, did an online app, gave you his SSN and drivers license number and date of birth, and he has his DOT certification and you investigate him thoroughly FOR 3 days, and you’re satisfied that he meets all of your requirements and any sanctioned by the DOT and FMCSR, then what other hidden problem is there? All that’s left for that driver to do is the drug test and road test.

Mega carriers are the only idiots that go up your ##* with a magnifying glass, then disqualify you because you couldn’t verify employment back in 1965. It’s ridiculous that those morons even have drivers at all.

We’re truck drivers. That’s what we do. We’re not runnng for Congress and we don’t need congressional approval to get a job driving a truck, but that’s how the mega’s make it seem.
