I'm getting e-mails from the Megan's asking if I'm interested in powering their trailers to hurricane relief areas.

I'm in the right spot for it but these are the same Megan's who want me to run their trailers for $1.75 d&h.

    No thanks.

Any input on who to sign up with for some relief loads? Who pays- Uncle Sam?

    Any info appreciated

1 -If you actually want to help folks - then do it.

2 - If you want to profit from others misery - go ahead.

When they run out of folks from category (2) - I'll be right there, in category (1), and the least of my questions would be compensation.

You want to make this personal and it isn't.
If I can't make a reasonable profit, of which 1.75 is questionable, then there won't be a truck to haul anything. Except, I guess for the independantly wealthy trucker.

I ran relief for Katrina, it paid the fuel and a few extra bucks. I was asked and I did it. I do not regret doing it, in fact it felt pretty good bringing in the supplies. I was down there when Katrina made landfall. It wasn't about the money for me.

Not at all personal - unless you took it that way. I've had a couple of friends do it for personal reasons and risked their equipment doing so. Absolute credit to them. They are honestly better men than I.

I've also known guys that have gone down to get paid, and avoided any mention of work, on the taxpayers dime.

    My response stands as is.

However - for reference, I believe the Landstar going rate is typically $1200-$1500/day staged, load and deliver as needed. Perhaps research that avenue. Though I usually hear of brokers clawing each other down and attempting to pocket as much as possible while 'securing' trucks.

Just throwing my .02 in, as I have done this stuff before. Nothing personal.

Seriously, I was curious if it was a friend or a governmental entity or?

Actually it was a broker I had dealt with for quite a few years. He through the number at me, I hemmed and hawed, thought about it and said OK. It was refrigeration equipment for a church that was North of I-20 (North of Jackson MS) that had planned on feeding quite a few people. They were needing this donated equipment to help with the influx of folks from down south. It took a few days, but in the end, it was worth it. Saw much of the destruction first hand, from I-20 North. It was something I will never forget, or regret doing.

everything ive hauled ive profited from someone elses misery, look at where most of the food and resources come from in this country, if you use a phone or laptop to book a load you most likely profited from someone elses misery, could never understand why truckers think they are doing such noble work, maybe they dont understand it for what it really is.
