If you work on strict appointments and tight traverse schedules, bumping up against your 70 the entire way across the nation, eventually you'll need to get up and roll 2 hours earlier to make that early morning appointment in Orange County with 30 minutes to spare.
ESPECIALLY now with eLogs. Sure. With paper, this was rarely a point of contention.
Trying to figure out 8/2, 2/8 Sleeper Split

Using split sleeper, arrive at 2000 at first stop and show a few obligatory minutes On Duty checking in then log Sleeper for 8 hours even though at midnight you're rolling up to the docks to get unloaded.
At 0400 you again show some 5 minutes obligatory On Duty time to reflect the work you did then drive over to stop #2 and stage for 0700 delivery. Show 2 hours Off Duty here while unloading your trailer.
Now roll over to final stop before noon and again show 8 hours Sleeper while getting unloaded. Sometime around zero dark thirty you will have legal hours to skeedaddle and go find a big truck parking spot about 100 miles away lol since San Diego doesn't have any parking. -
I'm letting the eLog do the math for me. Yes I know it's lazy.
The issue is, I've gone 10 years without needing to split, now it's just only been a month since full enforcement and I've used it twice in a week. I suspect it will get worse, and frankly I can't wait to start telling some of these brokers "NO!" -
Anyone awake yet? I started my day today with 8hrs 15minutes in sleeper I had 7hr 28 mins driving and 2hr48mins on not drive. Now..can I take 2 hours off in sleeper..then drive 4 more then do an 8 again or do a 10 . ?

Ok so where I am confused is I take my 2 hr break first, then I take my 8 hr break. I run whatever hours I have left. Then can I take another 2 hour break to get more hours back?
-
It would be nice if e-logs would tell you home time you will recoup for both parts of a 2 or 8 hour break.
I can do it myself, I use 8/2 breaks a lot but elogs is making the calculation, it will add the time back on your clock, just should be able to give u the calculation upfront at the start of the break. IMHO -
Ive never had to use the split rule, I run teams. But I was always under the impression and told that when you take a split you are not gaining any hours, you are still driving 11 but you are extending the 14 hour clock by 8 hours. I see know after looking it up on JJ Keller.
