Remember the Seinfeld episode where Jerry asked for the telemarketers number? Do the same. Ask for his number and tell him you'll call when you're available, even if it's 2 in the morning

If you've had at least 8 hrs in the SB, you only need 2 additional hrs on line 1 or 2 to complete your 10 hr break. If you've been off/sleeper for at least 2 hrs, then only more 8 in the sleeper is required to get your 10.

In other words, you probably DON'T have to wait 10 hrs before you can move again.

Being woken up by the receiver to load the truck, is not a telephone call. Huge difference

She scrambled her ideas, and let them loose in the run. Honestly, i dont think she could have cracked this open egg any better.

Are you being paid hourly to be in the sleeper? The company will be changing that rule shortly if some abuse it and putting everyone on mileage or load pay. As for telephone calls, use the mute button if needing rest. Many would not mind moving into a dock to be loaded or unloaded on break, it is a good use of time if you do not mind being shook around a bit.

Well, the OP hasn’t returned, and we’ve eggshausted most of the egg yolks, I mean jokes, so -

15 years driving hardly makes me an old timer, but I hear myself sometimes and am reminded of listening to ‘old timers’ when I started, just in a later time frame.

I get the whole ‘Must abide by rules’ militant crowd. That’s great - seriously, it really is. I’m a black and white rule follower as much as humanly possible. But at some point, I think you have to be practical.

E logs have made things trickier, but - we used to just . . . Get things done.

    Burn the previous page.
Hang the Qualcomm out the window
    Turn the phone to silent
    Unplug the satellite
Load and unload as soon as possible
    Contact the shipper/receiver yourself
    Run around the scales
    Use your own judgement
    Sleep when you needed it.
    Get the job done.

The only time I rang the dispatcher was when I didn’t see a pre planned load.

Some days I read threads on here that make me wonder if the driver needs someone to hold his hand, think for him, or if he really even wants to work at all and would rather find a reason to get some payout or compensation.

    I dunno. Rant over.

    Scrambled eggs on toast anyone?

Thats true, that is no yoke. Think mayby he likes alot of sleep and is milking that hourly pay. Better do the job and keep sunnyside up.

And yet another reason we need to be able to split our sleeper berth up in something other than just 8/2. I would say the industry has gone further to hell since people have decided to enforce logs to the second and leave no flexibility to it at all.

    Oxbow and x1Heavy Thank this.

What it comes down to is this. Legally, if you have to move your truck to a door to get loaded or unloaded, that is "on-duty work" and would break your 10hr reset. In reality though, the only person your hurting by doing that is yourself. If you need absolute uninterrupted 10 hours of beauty sleep just to get through a day of OTR work. God help you.

I know some drivers have elogs that record every inch that truck moves. That sucks. I've heard those super sensitive elogs are the future. If that's the truth, kill me now plz.

Oxbow, Lepton1, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this.
